Completed the Climate Action Plan in accordance with the Climate Commitment signed by Dr. Jenkins, pledging the college to be carbon neutral by 2042. The Plan outlines strategies to achieve this goal.
Planted a tree in honor of Arbor Day 2016.
Moraine Valley Student GIS Intern completed a tree canopy inventory of the main campus interior space. Over 1300 trees were identified including 77 unique species.
The Moraine Valley Community Garden completed a fourth year of production. Students are managing the food production and other volunteers. Proceeds are being donated to the local food pantry.
Center for Sustainability received a sub-contract award to work with IGEN on the grant goals of increasing consumer knowledge of SmartGrid and SmartMeter technology.
Moraine Valley continues to host a SmartGrid Kiosk – a walk-up, read, touchscreen interactive tool to increase consumer knowledge of SmartGrid and SmartMeter technology.
Hosted a community event to provide e-waste, textile, & household waste collection and recycling while providing opportunities for community members to interact with and learn about SmartGrid and SmartMeter technology to help them reduce waste and increase savings.

MV participated in the Electric Vehicle (EV) Road Trip, in part with IGEN and the IL Green Governments Council, to host a charging car and highlight the value of building the EV network. MVCC has 2 chargers on campus. Representative Burke and Dr. Jenkins both greeted the relaying EV car and delivered remarks.

Water Audit Training & Billion Gallon Challenge – 2 of MV’s staff were able to attend a 2-day training to educate participants about the major water uses on college campuses, and how one can assess their efficiency: cooling towers, central energy facilities, boilers, pools, kitchens, showers, landscapes, sinks, toilets, and urinals.
Another IL EPA Intern was hired and will start in this FY and end August FY 16 with results from a water audit & an application to the Illinois Sustainable Technology Center (ISTC) funding to complete one or more of the projects recommended by the audit.
Center for Sustainability received a sub-contract award of $17,500 to work with IGEN on the Grow Solar SunShot Federal grant
Center for Sustainability received an educational kiosk to be displayed around campus for users to learn about and understand the benefits of SmartGrid technology- the SmartGrid Kiosk – is a walk-up, read, touchscreen interactive tool
Supported by funding and administrative resources from the Center for Sustainability Moraine Valley the Sustainability Scholars Program (SSP) (formerly Greening Your Curriculum (GYC) program) has now involved over 80 faculty and resulted in more than 75 sections infused with sustainability
Moraine Valley was recognized by the AACC SEED Center for this program as a Green Genome-Program Delivery Award recipient, receiving $7,500 cash award and a “green jobs toolkit” worth over $10,000.

Center for Sustainability partnered with Wellness to offer the first CSA-Farm Fresh Produce Drop-Off program
The Green Team and Center for Sustainability announced a Green Initiative Mini-Grant Pilot Program. Moraine Valley staff, faculty, department, sub-division, individual, or team was eligible to apply for up to $1,000 to support a new green initiative. 3 projects chosen will result in up 800$ savings annually: CLC reusable plates; Biology Composting; and IELP International Garden.
Center for Sustainability partnered with Energy Impact Illinois to offer 3 sessions on home energy performance and savings
Center for Sustainability partnered with CCCE, EDCSS, & SWCM to host the first annual Southwest Suburban Summit on Economic Development, Partnering for Economic Strength November 15, 2012, (80+) participants
Moraine Valley Greening Your Curriculum (GYC) program has now involved over 50 faculty and resulted in more than 60 sections infused with sustainability

Increased number of network printers to eliminate desktop printers, resulting in less wasted materials and energy.
Catalogued several departmental efforts to reduce paper use, including digital library overdue notices.
Piloted internal sustainability solutions mini-grant, providing duplexers for public printers in library to allow for double-sided printing.
Received an innovation award from the Moraine Valley Foundation to install a Bike-Fix Station.
