Discover The World Of Film And Music This Fall At Moraine Valley

Explore a robust selection of film and music noncredit courses virtually this fall at Moraine Valley Community College. Film buffs and novices alike can learn the details of film through classes such as:

• A Brief History of Film — understand the origins of cinema, coming of sound, studio system, onscreen censorship and some mechanics of film.
• Cinematography — covers various aspects of cinematography, including film stock, perspective relationships, framing and on/off-screen space.
• The Irony of Festivus — that silly holiday introduced by “Seinfeld” and celebrated annually on Dec. 23, as students consider its origins and place in popular culture, including Chicago.

Music lovers can take a trip down memory lane in four new noncredit music history courses:

• John Lennon: The Solo Years — explores the 10-year period from the Beatles break-up in 1970 to Lennon’s murder in 1980 through audio and visual content.
• The Beatles: The History in One Hour — traces the arc of their career from their development in Liverpool through Beatlemania and into their psychedelic phase and eventual dissolution.
• Motown: Music That Moved the Work — traces an amazing musical journey from the power soul of “Dancing in the Streets” and “I Heard It Through the Grapevine” to the psychedelic “Cloud Nine” and “What’s Going On” to the pop soul of The Jackson 5.
• Simon & Garfunkel: Sound and Then Silence — traces the arc of Simon & Garfunkel’s career from their surprise teenybopper hit “Hey Schoolgirl” and folk rock classic “Sound of Silence” to the popular “Mrs. Robinson” and majestic “Bridge over Troubled Water.”

All courses will be live online via video webinar and start between mid-September through December.
