Moraine Valley Promotes
Sustainability
Moraine Valley is fully committed to becoming a leader in furthering
environmental sustainability practices. We have a “Green Team” in place to
identify current practices and future needs. New procedures have been introduced
to help reduce paper usage throughout the college and increase the use of
recycled papers. Students, faculty, and staff will find it easier to recycle
plastic bottles and aluminum cans since 100 additional recycling bins have been
placed around campus.
We will continue to offer classes and workshops that teach how utilizing green
practices benefits us all. Recently, the college received a grant from the
Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity to develop a new program that
will train individuals to become certified as Residential Energy Service Network
(RESNET) Raters. These certified raters will evaluate a house’s energy
performance to help reduce high utility bills and indoor air quality problems
that homeowners currently face. Finally, our new Southwest Education Center will
incorporate green practices and be LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental
Design) certified.
