DEMETRIUS Robinson
Coordinator, Student Life
“We’re all here for one common goal,” says Demetrius, “to educate the whole
person. We care about meeting our students’ needs on all levels.” As coordinator
of Student Life, Demetrius oversees the 32 student clubs and organizations on
campus; develops activities such as Fall Fest and the intramural sports program;
provides opportunities for students to expand their leadership abilities and
community services efforts; and creates an atmosphere of fun.
Demetrius believes his job is to help students
master the social skills that are necessary in the workplace and the “real
world.” As a former job placement specialist, he understands the value of
participation in extracurricular activities. “Employers want to know that you’re
well-rounded,” he says. “Can you socialize? Work as a team member? Implement an
idea? Students can gain these valuable life skills by getting involved in
Student Life,” says Demetrius.
Faculty Focus
THERESA Lorenzini
Department Chair/Assistant Professor, Business
“I truly love what I do,” says Theresa. After a long corporate career,
Theresa began teaching business classes as an adjunct instructor and joined the
full-time faculty seven years ago. “I’ve taught almost every business class here
at one time or another,” she says. Theresa now teaches accounting and
international business classes. She is able to bring her extensive travel
experience into the classroom and share how important it is to respect people’s
differences.
As the child of Polish immigrants, Theresa
didn’t speak English until she started school. She believes this experience
helps her connect with many of her students for whom English is not their native
language. “I can relate to what they’re going through,” she says. Theresa
believes the college’s focus on diversity is valuable and makes Moraine Valley a
special place. “We emphasize the uniqueness of each student,” she says.
Dr.
AMANI Wazwaz
Assistant Professor, Communications/Literature
“I want my students to share their ideas in lively discussions because these
interactions with all the class members help deepen our understanding of the
literature we are studying,” says Amani. As a literature and communications
instructor, Amani enjoys seeing her students gain confidence in their ability to
interpret what they’re reading and strengthen their writing. “It’s satisfying
seeing students challenging themselves to become better writers on a day-to-day
basis,” she says.
Amani believes that Moraine Valley aims to
guide all students to develop to their highest potential. “What makes Moraine
Valley a place I’m especially proud to work at is that everyone here is welcome
and treated as a valued member of this community,” she says.
