The Public Service Department offers programs designed to prepare students to work in a variety of service industries. These programs include challenging classroom experiences and opportunities for on-the-job internships.

Department Programs
  • Addictions Studies-Meets professional substance abuse counselor certification training requirements.
  • Criminal Justice-Emphasizes careers in the criminal justice field.
  • Fire Service Management-Meets OSFM certification, and emphasizes careers in the fire service field.
  • Fire Service Operations-The program is designed to prepare students for entry-level jobs in the fire service. The program will culminate with students completing fire academy training and performing a capstone internship with a local fire department.
  • Fitness Trainer-Provides training for jobs in health fitness clubs, sports facilities, etc.
  • Physical Education and Health-Features aerobics, body building, fitness, health, lifestyle, nutrition, outdoor recreation, team sports, etc.
  • Security Services-Emphasizes careers in the security and loss prevention field, as well as criminal justice.
  • Recreation Management-Emphasizes careers in the leisure services and commercial recreation industries.
  • Recreation Therapy-Provides recreation therapist job training.

Admission Policies
Moraine Valley is a comprehensive full-service community college with an open-door admission policy for high school graduates and others qualified to enter. Admission is available to individuals 18 or older who are high school graduates/GED recipients, or who have permission from their high school.
