This certificate program provides students with a complete educational experience for those who wish to become Mammography Technologist. The Mammography Technologist Program provides each student opportunities to learn and develop competence in patient care, communication skills, critical thinking, and technical skills that will permit the student to become a Diagnostic Mammography Technologist. Integrated educational activities include lecture, laboratory activities, case studies, and hands-on clinical training. This curriculum provides a sequence of study in the science of Mammography to prepare the student to become an efficient and capable assistant to the radiologist. Students will be responsible for the production and technical quality of computed and digital radiographic images to permit accurate diagnosis of the breast imaging. The program strives to provide the stimulation and encouragement conducive to a good learning environment.

Nature of Work—This certificate program prepares students for the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists' (ARRT) post-primary registry examination in mammography, as well as for entry-level mammography positions. It is intended for ARRT registered imaging professionals. It is intended for ARRT registered imaging professionals that are certified by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists' (ARRT).

Employment OutlookAccording to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, Office of Occupational Statistics and Employment Projections, Employment is projected to grow faster than average. Those with knowledge of more than one diagnostic imaging procedure—such as CT, MR, and mammography—will have the best employment opportunities. Employment of radiologic technologists is expected to increase by about 17 percent from 2008 to 2018, faster than the average for all occupations. As the population grows and ages, there will be an increasing demand for diagnostic imaging.
