This certificate program will prepare students, who otherwise have a degree or related professional experience, with database design and management skills, providing the background for entry-level or trainee positions or enhancing an information technology professional’s versatility and career advancement potential.

Coursework will emphasize database design principles, Structured Query Language, and database administration using a variety of popular database management systems.

Nature of Work—This program is designed to qualify students as an Associate Database Administrator. Databases, which store information, are found in nearly every industry. Data must be stored, organized, and managed. Database administrators work with database software to find ways to do this. They identify user needs, set up computer databases, and test systems. They ensure that systems perform as they should and add people to the system as needed. Database administrators often plan security measures. Data integrity, backup, and security are critical parts of the job.

Employment Outlook—According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), employment in multimedia design is projected to grow at least 12% through 2018. The BLS further states that the need for individuals to create digital and multimedia artwork will drive that expected growth. The median annual wages of multimedia artists and animators was $56,300 with the middle 50% earning between $41,710 and $77,010. Additionally, the median annual wages for individuals in motion picture and video and motion picture industries was $65,600 and $52,530 in advertising.
