Accounting Assistant/Clerk
Certificate
Curriculum code 1328
General Information                    Business Web site Gainful Employment Information

This program is designed to prepare students for entry-level accounting employment in the shortest possible time.

Students will experience hands-on training on modern computers, laser printers and business-oriented software in the college’s Center for Contemporary Technology.

This certificate requires fewer credit hours to complete than an Associate degree and is intended to lead to employment. Students considering transfer to a four-year college or university to obtain a bachelor’s degree using the courses from this program should make an appointment with an academic advisor to review options.

Employment Outlook—In addition to the new administrative services management jobs due to growth in the occupation, many job openings will stem from the need to replace workers who transfer to other jobs, retire, or leave the occupation for other reasons.

In May 2010, the median annual wages of bookkeeping, accounting, and auditing clerks were $34,030. The middle half of the occupation earned between $26,350 and $40,130. The top 10 percent of bookkeeping, accounting, and auditing clerks earned more than $51,470, and the bottom 10 percent earned less than $21,270.
