Chapter Seven

Place on Map: Harlem 1943-1945

The railroad company had permanently banner Malcolm after he pulled a gun on a fellow gambler during a card game in the lower level of Grand Central Station in New York. The police knew aIl too well that Malcolm was a drug dealer so he had to dabble in other hustles. Malcolm began doing robberies and trafficking guns. He also began doing harder drugs to prepare for the hustles he did and to deal with the stress. Reginald came to stay with Malcolm and that inspired Malcolm to rent his first apartment, ensuring that he and Reginald had a place they could call home. Malcolm set up Reginald with a ''safe'' hustle involving buying defective goods and selling them for large profit. Riots and the city government had taken a hit on the Harlem nighttime. Many of the white tourists who used to visit didn't anymore. This caused many hustlers and prostitutes to get legitimate jobs, but Malcolm was steadfast in his unlawful pursuit of money. Malcolm and Sammy the Pimp had a small falling out after Malcolm hits one of Sammy's girls. Malcolm and Sammy made up but only on the surface. This caused Malcolm to rely more so on his brother Reginald as the only person he could trust.
