Chapter 1
B
1925-1937. Omaha; Lansing, Michigan. In 1925 Malcolm X was born in Omaha. After his birth the family moved to Lansing. Malcolm recalls how he was the seventh child favored by his father and scolded by his mother. It wasn't always a peaceful during his early years. In 1929 the family awoke to their burning house barely making it out in time. Read more. Move on to Chapter 2.
Chapter 2

1937-1941. Lansing, Michigan; Alma, Michigan; Kalamazoo, Michigan; Boston, Massachusetts; Mason, Michigan. Malcolm X was thirteen years old when he started boxing. He was not as good as his younger brother, Philbert. Malcolm X lost really bad to Bill Peterson, a white boxing boy. African Americans made him feel awful about it that he wanted to go into hiding. 1940-1941. New York City. Malcolm was showing off his best moves and fell in love with lindy-hopping at the Roseland Ball Room. He decided to quit the job as a shoeshine boy because he couldn't keep up with dancing at the same time. Read more. Move on to Chapter 5 or go back to Chapter 2.

1942. Harlem, New York City. During this time, Malcolm X had just moved from Boston to New York, a place he had only dreamed of. Here, he had ajob working for the railroad companies serving food on trains. Read more. Move on to Chapter 6 or go back to Chapter 4.

Harlem, New York City. Now that he had a job as a waiter at a bar called Smalls‘, Malcolm found a place to stay in a house being run by prostitutes. Surprisingly, Malcolm got along with the girls. Read more Move on to Chapter 7 or go back to Chapter 5.

1943-1945. Harlem, New York City. The railroad company had permanently banner Malcolm after he pulled a gun on a fellow gambler during a card game in the lower level of Grand Central Station in New York. 1945. Harlem, New York City. In the fall of 1945, Malcom X found himself in a fix that almost left him dead. Old time hustler West Indian Archie was settling a score with Malcom about being cheated on the numbers racket. Read more Move on to Chapter 9 or go back to Chapter 7.
Chapter 9

1946. Boston. This point in Malcolm X’s life was an all time low. On the run from danger in Harlem, Malcolm X moves back to Boston. Staying with his sister, who along with his old friend Shorty, marvel at how much he has changed for the worst, he begins to abuse drugs more heavily. Norfolk Prison Colony; Charlestown Prison. Malcolm began to write letters to Elijah Muhammad. Feeling ashamed of his poor grammar, vocabulary, and hand writing, he decided to begin copying the dictionary word for word. After expanding his knowledge and vocabulary through this unique learning technique, he began to write more to Elijah Muhammad. Read more Move on to Chapter 12 or go back to Chapter9.

1953. Massachusetts; Detroit. Malcolm was given a job by the Jewish store owner that his brother Wilfred worker for. Malcolm stayed with his brother in Detroit. The household was different because it had a Muslim home's atmosphere. There, Malcolm had a chance to go to his first Nation of Islam meeting and he was very excited. 1954-1958. Chicago; Boston; Philadelphia; Massachusetts; Atlanta; Lansing. With gaining more respect for Mr. Muhammad, Malcolm began visiting him in Chicago. Soon after his visit, Malcolm was sent to Boston to visit Brother Lloyd X and teach others about the Nation of Islam. While in Boston, Malcolm met up with Shorty who was focused on music and his band rather than listening to the teachings of the Nation of Islam. 1959-1961. Chicago; New York; Washington; Los Angeles. Beginning in 1959, Malcolm X becomes deeply enthusiastic about spreading the word of the Nation by speaking publicly, opening several temples, and recruiting thousands of followers. In chapter 14, we see, for the first time, Mr. Elijah Muhammad speak about the Nation of Islam. We also get a chance to see what Malcolm's experience in debating and researching has done for him. Harvard College. During this chapter, we find out that Elijah Muhammad has gotten older and is not in as good of health as he used to be. Because of this, his doctors advised that he move to Arizona or some other dry place. They said that a warm dry place would be better for his health. When Elijah Muhammad moved to Arizona it became harder for Malcolm X to speak to him. Read more Move on to Chapter 16 or go back to Chapter 14.

1963. Boston; Phoenix; Florida. Malcolm x was at the beginning of one of his interviews when someone showed him a newspaper article where someone had written about how the Louisiana Citizens Council had offered a reward of $10,000 for the death of Malcolm X. Chapter 17
Malcolm had wanted to make a pilgrimage to Mecca for a long time. Being sincere in considering himself a Muslim, he wanted learn about true Islam. Malcolm had be told by many to meet and talk with Dr. Mahmoud Youssef Shawarbi. Mr. Shawarbi was a United Nations advisor, and the Director of the Federation of Islamic Associations in the U.S. and Canada. Malcolm met Mr. Shawarbi when he was applying for a visa to go to Mecca.
