Information Literacy Summit 2005 Bringing together experts; librarians; and academic faculty to share and learn. Presentations and discussions provide librarians and faculty with the strategies needed to prepare students to effectively and efficiently access, evaluate, and use information. For this Fourth Annual Information Literacy Summit, we are inviting librarians and instructors from colleges, universities, high schools, and middle schools. Others who are interested in information literacy at these levels are also welcome to attend. To ensure participation from across Illinois, the Summit is held three times: at Moraine Valley in the north, at Illinois Central College in the middle of the state, and again at John A. Logan in the south. The 2005 Information Literacy Summit is sponsored by NILRC, the Network of Illinois Learning Resources in Community Colleges, and is funded as part of Information Literacy for the 21st-Century Learner: Preparing Students to Learn for Life, a National Leadership Grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS). Registration begins in February. Details will be posted here soon.
9 a.m.-3:30 p.m.
Featured speaker: Beth S. Woodard, Information Librarian and Associate Professor, University of Illinois, Urbana/Champaign. Theme: This year’s theme is “Learning from Experience.” This will include best practices and, possibly, some of those other kinds of learning experiences (we hope there are librarians willing to share the less-than-best, but still educational, experiences). Discussion sessions: Breakout sessions are currently being organized. This year’s Summit will give special attention to NILRC’s Information Literacy for the 21st Century Learner grant project. This project includes elements of assessment, instruction, and collaboration. Who should attend?
