2012 Non-Traditional Career Panel
Friday, Feb. 24, 2012
Benefits of Pursuing Non-Traditional Careers The Non-Traditional career panel, sponsored by the Job Resource Center, provides an opportunity for students to learn more about the benefits of pursuing careers that traditionally attract one gender over another. Non-traditional careers are defined as those in which 25 percent or less of a certain gender is represented; for instance, men in nursing and women in automotive technology. Members of the 2010 panel included Jim Walsh, a nurse, who spoke about how he began his career more than 20 years ago, Michael Craig, whose passion for helping others as a recreational therapist has changed his life; Elizabeth McNulty, who is working toward becoming a railroad engineer; Georgina Chapman, a graphic designer; Dale DuBouis, a Moraine Valley student studying Office Systems and Applications; and Jessica Cager, who is pursuing a career as a pilot. Those who attended said that they found the stories inspiring, and they were motivated to research more on a field of their choice. The Job Resource Center staff thanks all of the panelists and audience members for their participation in this annual event.
