What is a non-traditional career?
A Non-Traditional career is a career in which 25 percent or less of a certain gender is represented.

Who do I speak with if I'm interested in a non-traditional career at Moraine Valley?
When considering a career in which a student would be considered a Non-Traditional career student, it is best to speak with an academic advisor for guidance.

How do I contact an academic advisor?
If you have any questions about your educational plan, contact Academic Advising at (708) 974-5721.

What are some of the challenges of non-traditional careers?
Some general challenges include discrimination and/or harassment, and a sense of isolation if you are the only individual of your gender working at a particular business.

If I am interested in pursuing a non-traditional career, how would I learn more about the choices?
You can learn more through informational interviews, internships, professional associations and a student employment position in the department if available. Also, you can speak with faculty in the department.

If I pursue a non-traditional career program at Moraine Valley, are there opportunities for me to work in the department in which I take classes?
Possibly. Many departments have job postings for student employment via the student employment section of the Job Resources Center's Web site.
