Intern of the Year

Lacee Kallemeyn was selected among six student interns nominated as the 2012 Intern of the Year through the Job Resource Center Internship Program at Moraine Valley Community College. Lacee interned at the Children’s Museum in Oak Lawn. Her internship was a semester long and non-paid. Executive Director Adam Woodworth nominated Lacee, saying, “Lacee exemplifies the word professional. Throughout her internship, Lacee was someone we came to depend on as our 'go to' person when something needed to be done.” Woodward also said that what he admired most about Lacee was her character. Even though the position was non-paid, no one would have ever known interacting with Lacee. Her dedication, commitment, and initiative shined as an intern at the museum. “Lacee’s positive, friendly attitude was contagious amongst our staff. The Children’s Museum in Oak Lawn is a better place because Lacee interned with us,” Woodworth said.

Internship Employer of the Year

Amanda Mauceri was nominated by the Faculty Internship Coordinator for Recreation Therapy and Recreation Management, Donna McCauley. McCauley stated that Amanda, an alumnus of Recreation Therapy Program at Moraine Valley, started the partnership with the college as soon as she was hired in the position of Resident Services Director and since been promoted to Assistant Executive Director. Through Amanda’s leadership, Smith Village has been involved with Moraine Valley in many ways: serving an internship site, serving on the Recreation Advisory Board, giving professional presentations to classes, hiring Moraine Valley graduates, being an experiential learning site for various class projects, and assisting with designing the Gerontology Certificate Program. Amanda always goes above and beyond in making sure all students receive a quality internship experience. The students are exposed to many areas: marketing, senior programming, hospitality, staff meetings, special event planning, community out trips, and continuing education opportunities. Even with her busy schedule, Amanda meets weekly with the students to provide quality mentorship. McCauley said that as an Internship Coordinator for over 20 years, she has never experienced the commitment and dedication from any other Internship Supervisor like Amanda Mauceri and Smith Village; they are deserving of the Internship Employer of the Year!
