Internships
Why
should I participate in the Internship Program?
Internships give students the opportunity to explore careers, make valuable
contacts, and learn about themselves and the types of jobs that are available.
For an employer, it builds a potential employee pool, gives access to
additional staff during peak times, and the opportunity to mentor a student.
Student Information
An internship is a great way to get work
experience and college credits. You can sharpen your talents, network with
employer contacts, evaluate your strengths, and test your classroom skills in a
real world setting.

Intern
of the Year 2008
Congratulations to the 2008 Moraine Valley Intern of the Year and all of the
students nominated for this award.
The Intern
of the Year 2008, Tracy McGrath, of Oak Forest, interned at Garden Center
Services. McGrath is currently pursuing a certificate in desktop publishing and
graphics at the college and was the first Moraine Valley student to intern as
project coordinator at Garden Center Services in Burbank, a nonprofit agency
that works with adults who have developmental disabilities. As an intern, she
was assigned to create a comprehensive volunteer program, and design marketing
and recruitment materials. McGrath investigated volunteer laws to protect the
agency, and conducted staff focus groups to determine volunteer needs. The final
product was a 30-page volunteer procedure book.

Internship Employer of the Year 2008
For the first year, the Job Placement Center established an Internship
Employer of the Year Award. This award was established to recognize those
internship employers who go above and beyond in their duties to help the
student to learn and succeed. Congratulations to all nominees.
The
Internship Employer of the Year 2008, was presented to Kathy Faron, UPS Human
Resources recruiter for the 2008 year. Faron is the UPS recruiter on the Moraine
Valley campus. She works with a student intern to help students get part-time
jobs and pay for school by working at UPS in Hodgkins. She taught her intern how
to be confident in herself, how to network and interact with faculty, staff and
students, and how to better use technology to help her in her future career.
Sue Huiner,
Human Resource/Finance director at the Homer Township Fire Protection District,
also was nominated for the Intern Employer of the Year Award. Internship
