Respiratory Therapy--Career Opportunities

Job opportunities are expected to remain good. Employment of respiratory therapists

This program at Moraine Valley is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) and the Committee on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC) sponsored by the American College of Chest Physicians, the American Society of Anesthesiologists and the American Thoracic Society.

Currently, 48 states require licensure of respiratory care practitioners.  The standard in these states is successful completion of the Certification or Entry-Level Examination administered by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC. Graduates of MVCC are eligible to take this exam immediately upon graduation and after completion may apply for their Illinois license and thereafter are eligible to take the Registry Examination consisting of the Advanced Practitioner exam and the Clinical Simulation exam, both administered by the NBRC. Upon completion they earn the highest possible credential of Registered Respiratory Therapist. For information regarding credentials for respiratory care, visit www.nbrc.org.
