Nursing--More About the Program

In Moraine Valley Community College’s Nursing Program, you can prepare for a nursing career in hospitals and other health care settings.

You will learn to deliver nursing care to people of all ages using principles of the biological, physical and behavioral sciences. You will also study how to assess nursing care needs of patients as well as how to make judgments in planning, implementing and evaluating appropriate nursing care.

This two-year, nationally accredited program starts in either the fall or spring of each year and continues for a total of four consecutive semesters excluding summer. The Moraine Valley Community College Nursing program conducts a rigorous curriculum of lectures, labs, and clinicals. Clinicals are conducted on site at a variety of hospitals during the daytime and evenings.   Due to the rigorous nature of the program, a full time job is not recommended. You may consider completing your general education courses nearly any time—morning, afternoon or evening—and complete all of them part-time, if necessary, before dedicating yourself to the nursing courses.

The additional expenses a nursing student will incur include:, uniforms, liability and health insurance, current CPR certification, history and physical and immunizations.

If you are considering transferring to a four-year college or university using the courses from this program, make an appointment with an academic advisor to review your options. While most Bachelor of Science degree in nursing (B.S.N.) completion programs accept A.D.N. graduates, it is important to know more about the requirements of your chosen transfer institution at the beginning of your college experience. Please check specific admission guidelines for the school you are considering.
