Most of us are familiar with the common image of the green Frankenstein monster with bolts in his neck pictured in movies, on cereal boxes, and in commercials. Yet, we are not familiar with the novel that spawned this creature. Frankenstein, published in 1818, was the first science fiction novel, and it was written by a woman at a time when women were not taken seriously in the literary world.
