scholarships that do not have to be repaid. Many
scholarships are based on your
major, or grade point average, and not necessarily financial need.

Adjunct Faculty Organization
Scholarship
Established by the Moraine Valley
Adjunct Faculty Organization (M.V.A.F.O.), these scholarships provide money for
education-related expenses at Moraine Valley Community College.
Amount: $250-$500, dependent on
funds and number of qualified applicants
Eligibility: Open to part-time students (less than 11 credit hours per
semester) who have attended Moraine Valley for at least two semesters, excluding
summer school, and have accumulated six credit hours; are currently enrolled at
Moraine Valley and have maintained a minimum 3.0 grade point average.

Joann Karen Basick Memorial
Scholarship
Established by the Moraine Valley
Community College Foundation in honor of the former director of support
services, Joann Karen Basick, this scholarship can be used for tuition, fees and
books at Moraine Valley.
Amount: $1,000
Eligibility: Must be a female, enrolled and returning to school after
being away from the academic environment for a minimum of 10 years. Applicant
must submit a one-page typed essay indicating financial need and a stated goal
of achieving a degree or certificate.

M. Bauhs Scholarship
Established by friends and
colleagues in honor of Dr. Patricia M. Bauhs’ retirement from Moraine Valley
Community College, this scholarship can be used for tuition, fees and books at
Moraine Valley.
Amount: $1,000
Eligibility: Must be 24 years of age or older and currently admitted to
and enrolled in Moraine Valley Community College, have a minimum cumulative
grade point average of 2.0 or higher, carry a minimum of 12 credit hours in the
academic year, including the summer, in which the scholarship is awarded and
submit a one-page, typed, double-spaced essay describing: a) the individual’s
adult responsibilities, b) why the individual is applying for the scholarship,
c) what the applicant’s career aspirations are and d) how the applicant plans to
achieve his/her career aspirations.

Robert J. Bobb Memorial Scholarship
Established by former Moraine Valley Community College Foundation Board Member Mrs. Marguriet Bobb in memory of her late husband, this scholarship can be used for tuition, fees or textbooks at Moraine Valley.
Amount: $2,000
Eligibility: Must be a graduating senior/incoming freshman from a high
school within the MVCC district; must plan to pursue a career in business
administration or become an entrepreneur; must have a cumulative high school
grade point average of 3.0 (B) or higher; must be a full-time student (12 or
more credit hours) per semester; and must demonstrate financial need. Applicants
must also submit a brief (one page) typed statement as to why you believe you
should receive this scholarship. This award may be renewed for a second year
with a minimum MVCC cumulative GPA of 3.0 (B).

of the college, be a district resident, have a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.5, carry a minimum of six credit hours at Moraine Valley

Memorial Scholarship
Established by the family of Joanne
Casolari, a former Moraine Valley employee, this scholarship is available to single parents enrolled in Moraine Valley’s Nursing
Program and can be used for tuition or education-related expenses.
Amount: $200-$500 dependent on funds
Eligibility: Must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment in the Associate
Degree Nursing Program, be a single parent, be a district resident, have a
cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0, carry a minimum of six credit
hours, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 2.75 for renewal for second
semester, and submit a two-page essay stating why you want to become a nurse and
how you think a nursing career will help you achieve your goals and the goals
you have for your children.

Center for Disability Services Scholarship
Established by the Moraine Valley Community College Foundation, this scholarship recognizes and supports students with disabilities.
Amount: $1,000
Eligibility: Must be enrolled at Moraine Valley, be utilizing the Center for Disability Services, have a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.5, have completed six credit hours prior to the semester in which the award is received, carry a minimum of six credit hours during the semester in which the award is received, and submit a one-page essay stating why you feel an education is important and how the scholarship will help you achieve your academic goals.

Named in memory of the former dean of
Allied Health, Public Service and Nursing, this scholarship can be used for
tuition, fees, books, and transportation at Moraine Valley, as funds permit.

resident, be currently enrolled in an Allied Health or Nursing Program, have
successfully completed 12 credit hours of the program with a minimum grade point

Developmental
Education Scholarship
This scholarship is funded by the Moraine Valley Foundation, and can be used for
tuition and education-related expenses at Moraine Valley.
Amount: $1,000
Eligibility: Must be enrolled in a course offered through Moraine
Valley’s Developmental Education department. Students who are registered for
more than one developmental education course will be given preference for the
scholarship. Must be a district resident, have a cumulative grade point average
of at least 2.5, and carry a minimum of six credit hours during the semester in
which the award is received. Include a typed one-page essay indicating the
reasons why you are deserving of the scholarship.

This award is presented to district high school students who have demonstrated

Scholarships
These scholarships are funded by Moraine
Valley’s Faculty Association and can be used for college expenses such as
tuition, books and fees at Moraine Valley. Several scholarships are awarded each
semester.
Amount: $500-$1,500, dependent on funds and number of qualified
applicants
Eligibility: Open to full- or part-time students who have completed 25
credit hours in a transfer or career program at Moraine Valley, maintained at
least a 3.6 grade point average, are currently enrolled, have obtained the
signature of a full-time faculty member, and are enrolled at Moraine Valley

Foundation Scholarship
Established by the Great Lakes Bank
Foundation, this scholarship is intended to benefit students who are parents
with dependent children majoring in Business, Nursing, Allied Health or
Education at Moraine Valley Community College. It can be used for tuition, fees
and books at Moraine Valley.
Amount: $1,000
Eligibility: Must be a parent with dependent children, have completed 12
credit hours of college-level work and have a cumulative grade point average of
3.0 or higher, is currently enrolled in the Moraine Valley Community College
Business, Nursing, Allied Health or Education programs and plan to pursue a
career in the field of study, carry a minimum of six credit hours in Business,
Nursing, Allied Health or Education during the semester(s) in which the

Foundation Scholarship
Established by the Hickey Foundation for a single mother who is pursuing an
Associates Degree in Nursing, this scholarship can be used for tuition, fees and

Amount: $1,000-$3,000 dependent on funds
Eligibility: Must be a single mother currently enrolled in the Nursing
Program at Moraine Valley Community College and plan to pursue a career in

Eligibility: Must participate as a member on the Moraine Valley Community
College Forensics (speech) Team, have a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or
higher, be and remain enrolled as a full-time student at Moraine Valley, be and

Named in honor of a former Moraine
Valley professor, this scholarship is awarded to a graduating Moraine Valley
transfer student who completed a degree in August 2009 or will complete a degree
in December 2009 or May 2010.
Amount: $500
Eligibility: Must have a minimum grade point average of 3.0; be accepted
at a four-year institution and enroll at that institution within a year
following graduation from Moraine Valley; and plan to major in communications,
literature, humanities, or history.

Moraine Valley Foundation Police/Firefighter
Scholarship
This scholarship was established by the Moraine Valley Community College Foundation to provide a two-year college education to the spouse or children of any
Moraine Valley Community College district police officer or firefighter who dies in
the line of duty.
Amount: Full two-year scholarship, including tuition, books, and fees at
Moraine Valley.
Eligibility: Must be the spouse or child of a college-district police officer or
firefighter who has died in the line of duty.

Valley GED Graduate Scholarship
Established by Dr. Phil Bobich at
his retirement from Moraine Valley, this scholarship can be used for tuition,
fees and books at Moraine Valley. The scholarship can be applied to any credit
class including developmental classes like COM-090, MATH-095 and/or Reading-091.
Amount: $500
Eligibility: Must have participated in and attended at least 60% of the
enrollment hours in the GED Preparation Program at Moraine Valley Community
College and plan to continue at Moraine Valley Community College, have a
cumulative grade point average of 2.75 or higher, be a district resident, carry
a minimum of three credit hours during the semester in which the scholarship is
awarded, submit a 500-word typed, double-spaced essay stating how the individual
plans to use the scholarship to make a difference or impact.

Moraine Valley Leadership Award
This award is given to an outstanding student leader involved in Moraine Valley’s
student activities, community volunteer groups or other outside interests. The winner
speaks to graduating students at the commencement ceremony held in May.
Amount: $900
Eligibility: Must be a graduating student with a grade point average of at least
3.0 and be receiving an associate’s degree, submit an essay (three-page maximum)
on the topic “What is a Leader?”, submit two letters of recommendation
from persons who are able to validate your leadership skills and experiences, complete a brief form detailing your leadership experience during the
time you have been a Moraine Valley student, and complete a personal interview with the award selection committee.

Scholarship
Established by the Oak Lawn Rotary Club, this scholarship can be used for

Eligibility: Must be 24 years of age or older and returning to school
after being away five years or longer, and currently admitted to and enrolled in
Moraine Valley Community College, maintain a minimum grade point average of 2.0

Returning Women Diversity Scholarship
Established by Marjorie Brook Marlowe, is intended to benefit adult women who
are pursuing their educational goals at Moraine Valley after being out of school
for more than five years. It can be used for tuition, fees and books at Moraine
Valley.
Amount: $1,000
Eligibility: Must be a returning woman who has been out of school for
five years or longer and enrolled in Moraine Valley Community College, carry a
minimum of six credit hours during the semester in which the scholarship is
awarded, and submit a 500-word, typed statement that addresses the student’s
financial need, expresses her educational and career goals, and expresses the
applicant’s thoughts on being a returning women from a diverse background.
Diversity includes ethnicity, race, age, sexual orientation and gender
identification among others.

This scholarship, which can be used to continue your education, is awarded to an
outstanding participant in Moraine Valley’s Student Life programs.
Amount: $750

at least a 2.5 cumulative grade point average, with completion of at least six
credit hours per semester. Must complete essay and complete a personal interview

Support Staff Association Scholarships
These scholarships provide money for academically excellent students pursuing all
avenues of education. Awards are funded by Moraine Valley’s Support Staff Association.
Amount: $200-$300, dependent on funds and number of qualified applicants
Eligibility: Must have completed 15 credit hours at Moraine Valley, maintained
at least a 3.0 grade point average, and have obtained a recommendation by a Moraine Valley faculty member.
