Introduction

Curriculum Development Process Preparation Points
Curriculum development is an integral role of a faculty member in support of the mission of the college. Whether initiating a new course or program, or revising existing curriculum, consideration should be given to the various components which have a general impact on curriculum development. The College mission statement, Academic Affairs vision statement, departmental initiatives, advisory council recommendations (occupational programs only) and budgetary support are some of the specific academic components which work together to reflect the course content and general education learning outcomes for students.

Consult the following for assistance with any of these preparation points:

General:

  • College mission statement                      See Appendix
  • General education learning outcomes        See Appendix
  • Academic Affairs vision statement           See Appendix
  • Departmental initiatives                         See subdivision office
  • Advisory Council recommendations           See department chair
  • Budgetary support                                See dean

Curriculum specific:
The Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) regularly conducts workshops in the areas related to teaching and learning.
