Criteria for New Transfer Course Development
It is anticipated that a new course will be
proposed whenever departments/faculty discern the need to expand the curriculum
to enhance student preparation for further academic pursuits or for career
preparation. Unlike occupational courses that evolve as a part of workplace
changes and connect directly to a certificate or degree program, transfer
courses essentially “stand alone” as preparation for additional study. To
maintain the integrity of the curriculum and to assure students that the courses
listed in the catalog are viable in terms of being taught and accepted at
another institution, a department/faculty member must address the following as a
component of the “Intent to Develop” process:
-
How does the
course advance the mission of the College?
-
To what student
population will this be directed?
-
Does the course
have an Illinois Articulation Initiative (IAI) general education or
baccalaureate equivalent? If not, what institutions will accept the course
for transfer?
-
Identify faculty
who are qualified/available/willing to teach.
-
What is the
relationship of this course to others in the department with reference to
replication/expansion of the subject matter?
-
Will the course
draw sufficient enrollment (minimum 15 students) to be taught at least once
a year?
-
Does this course
conflict in any way with the offerings of upper division institutions?
