of Student Conduct
IV. Definitions
- The term "college" means Moraine Valley Community College.
- The term "student," for the purposes of this code, includes all persons applying for admission or currently taking courses, or having attempted courses within two years of the date of the violation, provided by the college both full-time and part-time.
- The term "faculty member" means all full- or part-time teachers, counselors, librarians, LRC technicians, Testing Center technicians, and advisors, excluding interns and student teachers.
- The term "official" includes any person employed by the college performing assigned administrative or professional staff responsibilities.
- The term "member of the college community" includes any person who is a student, faculty member, college official, or any other person employed by the college. A person's status in a particular situation will be determined by the assistant dean of Student Life and Judicial Affairs.
- The term "college premises" includes all land, buildings, facilities, and other property in the possession of or owned, used or controlled by the college (including adjacent streets and sidewalks).
- The term "organization" means any number of persons who have complied with the formal
requirements for college recognition.
- The term "judicial body" means any person or persons authorized by the assistant dean of Student Life and Judicial Affairs to determine whether a student has violated the Code of Student Conduct and to impose appropriate sanctions.
- The term "judicial advisor" means a college official authorized on a case-by-case basis by the assistant dean of Student Life and Judicial Affairs or designee to impose sanctions upon students found to have violated the code. The assistant dean of Student Life and Judicial Affairs may authorize a judicial advisor and the sole member or one of the members of a judicial body. Nothing will prevent the assistant dean of Student Life and Judicial Affairs from authorizing the same judicial advisor to impose sanctions in all cases.
- The term "Appeals Board" means any person or persons authorized by the assistant dean of Student Life and Judicial Affairs to consider an appeal from the judicial body's determination that a student has violated the code or from the sanctions imposed by the judicial body.
- The term "college day" is defined as any day excluding Saturdays, Sundays, breaks in the academic year, or any holidays recognized by the college.
- The term "will" is used in the imperative sense.
- The term "may" is used in the permissive sense.
- The term "weapon" is defined in accordance with state law, and includes any object or substance designed to inflict a wound or cause injury.
- The term "college-sponsored activity" means any activity on or off college premises that is directly initiated or supervised by the college.
