Where can a Moraine Valley Travel Business Management or Meeting
Planner certificate or degree take you?
Anywhere you want to go!
This industry is not just working for the airlines and travel
agencies, said Mary Beth Walsh, professor and program coordinator of
Travel Business Management, Meeting Planning and Special Events at
Moraine Valley.
Its also about helping corporations negotiate prices and monitor
employees travel expenses. The travel industry is not dying, but
morphing. Sites such as Travelocity and Orbitz are really travel
agencies. The Internet has just changed how and where we do business.
Roz Stuttley was looking to reinvent herself in the special events
industry so she enrolled in a Meeting Management class through the
Meeting Planning Program. Through networking in class, she landed her
dream job as an account manager for Corporate Meetings and Events at
Chicagos Field Museum.
Going to Moraine Valley was one of the best things that happened to me
because I wanted to get into planning events, but I wasnt sure how to
go in that direction, said Stuttley. A guest speaker in class
suggested I look at cultural institutions, and thats exactly what I did
the next day. Four interviews later, I got the job at the Field Museum.
I would not be there if I hadnt taken that class at Moraine Valley. It
was definitely the step I needed.
