James P. Roos
SCORE Consultant—Jim represents a successful blend of management skills, sales and communications. He was a managing director at a Chicago agency for several of the nation’s largest accounts, like Kraft’s Parkay Butter and talking cup commercials for Kraft’s Parkay Margarine.

He has worked with Leo Burnett and DDB Needham Worldwide in Chicago and Los Angeles, has written marketing columns for national publications, and has been a speaker at major industry and university events.

Jim has owned three businesses and has been a Small Business Administration consultant and seminar leader. Currently he heads his own marketing communications company. Jim joined SCORED in August 2008.

Bob Jones, M.B.A
SCORE Consultant—Bob has more than 35 years experience in manufacturing, having worked for 3M Corporation, CPC International, Fort James Corporation, and Commercial Forged Products. Much of his career was devoted to human resource development, as well as employee and labor relations. Bob has an undergraduate degree in civil engineering and a Masters in Business Administration.

Frank Parz
SCORE Consultant—Frank was a loan specialist in the Finance Division of the Small Business Administration (SBA) for more than 14 years, responsible for screening of loan applicants, loan counseling, marketing, and processing of loan applications. He reviewed and approved loan applications for 9 (a) general business loans, 504 loans, revolving lines of credit and other loan programs.

Prior to the SBA, Frank worked for six years for the Federal Savings and Loan Insurance Corporation (FSLIC) and The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) managing six defunct Savings and Loans.

Earlier in his career, Frank spent 21 years as a vice president in mortgage lending for a local savings and loan. He began serving as a SCORE counselor in May 2006.

Tom Redler, M.B.A, CPA
SCORE Consultant—Tom brings extensive experience in accounting, tax, financial analysis, and business startup issues to the BDRC. He has worked in the private sector as director of tax and treasurer for Heartland Partners and Heartland Technology, Inc. Tom has a B.S. in accounting from Southern Illinois University and an M.B.A. and an M.S. in taxation from DePaul University.

Carl "Buzz" Van Hecke, B.S.
SCORE Consultant—Buzz has extensive experience in sales and marketing. He enjoyed a 25-year career with Andrew Corporation, where he progressed from sales engineer to U.S. sales manager. He now runs his own company, Investment Enhancing Systems Inc., an investor training software company. Buzz also works with entrepreneurs as a Chair for TEC, an organization that provides personal and professional development to CEOs. Buzz has a B.S. in electrical engineering from the University of Notre Dame.
