As a comprehensive community college, Moraine Valley is dedicated to helping adults achieve their academic goals. Various services and programs, both credit and noncredit, are available to students.

Academic Skills—Courses are available to improve basic skills in reading, writing and mathematics, as well as study skills.

Achieved Prior Learning—APL is a way to earn college credit for what you already know from prior learning or work experience.

Adult Basic Education—Teaches basic skills that adults need to prepare for GED instruction.

Adult Learner Program—Designed to help the adult student with the transition back to the college classroom.

Advanced Placement Credit—Moraine Valley may grant credit to students who have participated in the College Entrance Examination Board Advanced Placement Program in their high schools.

Center for Advanced Studies—The center offers educational opportunity for community members to complete a bachelor's degree, earn credits toward the master's degree or simply continue education.

Classroom/Online Classes—Students come to campus a number of times but do the majority of their work over the Internet.

College Level Examination Program—Students may take CLEP tests at authorized test centers, including Moraine Valley, in subjects such as English, humanities, mathematics and social sciences. Up to a full year of college credit may be earned by passing these tests.

Cooperative Programs—Agreements with other community college's that allow district residents to enroll in occupational programs not currently offered by Moraine Valley.

Directed Study—These courses offer a flexible schedule of independent study coupled with regular opportunities to meet with the instructor and other students.

English as a Second Language—ESL courses are offered for students whose native language is not English.

Extension Center Courses—Moraine Valley offers college credit courses for the working adult at several local schools in the evening.

General Educational Development—Offers students an alternative to earning a high school diploma.

Illinois Virtual Campus—Assists students in locating, enrolling in and studying at baccalaureate and graduate institutions across the state via a variety of distance learning formats, including the World Wide Web.

Intensive English Language Program—Designed to serve students whose native language is not English and who are interested in improving their English skills in order to enroll in college.

International Education—Moraine Valley provides comprehensive academic and support services for international students who enroll at the college.

International Host Home Program—The Host Home Program offers students the opportunity to live with a local family and enjoy the convenience of a home while practicing English with their hosts.

Literacy Volunteer Program—Addresses the needs of adults who want to learn to read or improve in basic reading, writing and mathematics skills.

Moraine Area Career System (MACS)—Provides students with the opportunity to develop a seamless career pathway and to acquire advanced academic, technical and workplace skills that link education and business.

Online Courses—Access class materials, participate in discussions and interact with the instructor via a home computer or a computer in one of the campus labs.

Proficiency Credit—Allows qualified students to convert vocational or noncredit courses or professional examination certificates to college credit.

Public Assistance Coordination Program—Assists economically disadvantaged individuals identified by the Illinois Department of Public Aid in meeting their needs academically, personally and socially.

Study Abroad—Allows students to enjoy foreign travel and earn college credits.

CTE Dual Credit Program—Articulation agreements granting college credit for proficiency in courses taken in high school.

Telecourses—Offers students the opportunity to work at an individual pace by viewing the televised portion of a course in the college library or, in most cases, at home.

Women in Technology Program—Are you a woman considering a career in the exciting technology field? Moraine Valley offers a mentoring program designed just for you! The Women in Technology Mentoring program is supported by a grant from the National Science Foundation and is intended to make women feel comfortable entering technology careers.
