This is a lecture/laboratory course. Topics include clinical laboratory
organization, communication skills, specimen processing, safety, infection
control, laboratory equipment, clerical procedures, quality assurance, and

Clinical Laboratory Procedures
Corequisites: MOA-105, MOA-140
This laboratory course is an introduction to basic clinical laboratory
procedures performed in a medical office/clinic setting. Hematology, urinalysis,
blood chemistries, medical microbiology, and other basic diagnostic procedures
will be performed. Fee is required. (6 contact hours)

Medical Assistant Office Procedures
Corequisites: MRT-110, MOA-115
This course is an introduction to the medical assistant profession. This course
focuses on the administrative duties of the medical assistant. Included are
office work, interacting with patients’ financial responsibilities, and safety
practices. (6 contact hours)

Medical Assistant Clinic Procedures
Prerequisites: MOA-105, MOA-140, MRT-110
Corequisites: MOA-110, MOA-150
This course is an introduction to medical assistant clinical procedures. It is
designed to provide the theoretical basis for performing clinical procedures in
the medical office/clinic setting. Included are patient assessment, physical
examination and patient treatments, and medical emergencies. (2 contact hours)

Medical Assistant Externship I
Prerequisites: MOA-105, MOA-140, MRT-110
Corequisite: MOA-145
This course is designed to give the beginning medical office assistant student
an insight into the working environment of a certified medical office assistant.
Includes observation and performance of basic procedures in a clinical setting.

Medical Assistant Externship II
Prerequisites: MOA-105, MOA-110, MOA-140, MOA-145, MOA-150, MRT-110
Corequisite: PHB-105
Students are assigned to affiliated health care facilities for supervised
clinical experience. Emphasis is on the mastery of entry-level competencies
related to the medical assistant practitioner. Fee is required. (4 contact
