    3. student learning styles

  2. Integrate functional areas serving students (academic programs, advising, counseling, learning laboratories, and support services) into a holistic approach to student development. Provide ongoing interventions to meet student needs.

    1. examine the linkage between academic programs and support services, and recommend changes

    2. ensure the creation of a comprehensive education and career plan for all students

    3. review and assess tutoring services

  4. Improve the quality, accessibility, and effectiveness of support services for students-including advising, tutoring, and job placement.

    1. provide more personalized counseling and advising to all students

    2. provide each student with personalized assistance in planning his/her course schedule

    3. give students more direction in career planning

    4. place an emphasis on getting jobs for certificate and degree completers

    5. refocus efforts of the Job Placement Center staff on getting jobs for students

    6. initiate program to "guarantee job placement" for certificate and degree completers

    7. expand Web-based options for delivering student services

    8. (see A.9.b)

  5. Expand the use of technology-assisted course offerings and services.

    1. offer multiple sections online of the more popular introductory transfer courses

    2. develop more online options for delivering counseling and advising services to all students.

    3. review the potential for offering entire degree and certificate programs online

    4. offer extended hours for Web and touch-tone registration, including weekends and holidays

    5. utilize technology applications in Human Resource operations

  6. Expand course offerings to include nontraditional formats and timeframes - including accelerated programs.

    1. offer more two-day per week, back-to-back scheduling options

    2. offer more one-day-a-week classes

    3. offer more short-term classes

    4. offer more distance learning options and telecourses at extension centers

    5. offer more condensed certificate programs (i.e., meet all day and complete in 8-15 months, or less)

    6. develop credentialing programs customized to student and customer needs

  7. Examine and recommend new instructional design and delivery modes for remedial course work to address the learning expectations and needs of underprepared students (e.g., learning styles, delivery of instruction, technology needs, and scheduling options).

  8. Develop programs and services for English as a Second Language students who are unprepared for college-level work.

    1. expand programs, courses and services for students requiring ESL

    2. implement mandatory English competency assessment for all students

    3. develop curricula for ESL-focused developmental education courses

    4. implement mandatory placement system for entry into ESL curricula

  9. Review and improve methods for assessing student placement.

    1. design and implement a needs assessment system

    2. develop a system to monitor and review cut-off scores for COMPASS (moved to A.4.h. for Year One)

    3. implement a process to assess the English proficiency of ESL students to assure accurate placement in courses

    4. investigate the use of diagnostic testing to further refine placement and areas for remediation

  10. Employ assessment of learning outcomes process as follows:

    1. conduct measurement of student learning outcomes per annual departmental plans

    2. review and analyze learning outcomes data

    3. implement recommended improvements based on assessment results
