planning to transfer to Lewis University are encouraged to take advantage
of the
Dual Admissions Program offered by Lewis and Moraine Valley. Participating in
this program will
allow you to receive academic advising and transfer planning
assistance from both a Moraine Valley
advisor and a Lewis advisor throughout
your enrollment at Moraine Valley. Applications to Lewis
University and Moraine
Valley Community College must be completed for dual admission.

Standard Transfer Options to meet
Lewis General Education
Requirements |
- Transfer after
completing Moraine Valley Community College’s Associate of Arts (A.A.) or
Associate
of
Science (A.S.) degree (note: the AFA and AAS do not meet
this requirement). Students desiring
to meet
general education requirements
through satisfactory completion of a Moraine Valley
AA or AS degree
should
see the MVCC Educational Planning Guide for Transfer Students.
- Transfer after
completing IAI General Education Core Curriculum (GECC). Students desiring
to
meet general education requirements through satisfactory completion of
the Illinois Articulation
Initiative (IAI) should
see the MVCC
Educational Planning Guide for Transfer Students.
- Complete Lewis
University General Education requirements. For students not planning to
complete
the IAI
general education core requirements or an AA/AS degree, but
want to meet the Lewis
core requirements,
a list of Lewis general education
requirements is available on page 32 or the
Lewis University Undergraduate
Catalog at
http://www.lewisu.edu/academics/programs/catalog.htm.
Students transferring without an
AA/AS degree should try to complete as many
of Lewis’ general
education requirements as possible at MVCC.
If you plan to earn
an Associate in Arts (AA) or an Associate in Science (AS) degree at
Moraine
Valley Community College:
Students are encouraged
to complete an AA or AS degree prior to transfer for most majors.
This transfer
guide is designed to recommend prerequisite, tool or transferable equivalent
courses for some of the most popular majors at this transfer institution. It is
suggested that
as many of these courses as possible be taken as part of the AA
or AS degree. Individual
colleges and universities may have admission, general
education or program requirements
beyond the associate’s degree requirements.
- Use the Moraine Valley
Community College Educational Planning Guide for Transfer Students as
a
guide
for meeting degree requirements.
- Meet with a MVCC
advisor to confirm the transferability of the AA/AS degrees at your chosen
transfer
institution.
- Select courses that
will meet general education requirements as well as freshman/sophomore
level
courses recommended for your program of study at the transfer institution.
Consult with
a MVCC advisor for
assistance in appropriate course selection.
- Contact the
Admissions Office
or an advisor in your chosen major department at the transfer
institution
as
soon as possible to verify your educational plan.
If you do not plan to complete an AA or an AS degree:
In general, students without an
AA or an AS degree will have their courses evaluated on a
course-by-course basis. While at MVCC, students can begin to take general education and
major
courses.
General Education course options:
1. You may choose to complete the 37-
41 semester hour Illinois Articulation Initiative General
Education Core (IAI
GECC) before transferring:
-
Use the
Moraine Valley Community College Educational Planning Guide for Transfer
Students
as a guide for
meeting general education requirements.
-
Meet with a MVCC advisor to
confirm that your chosen transfer institution accepts the IAI
GECC and
for
assistance in appropriate course selection.
-
Select courses that will meet general education requirements for completion of the IAI GECC.
Consult with
a MVCC advisor for assistance in appropriate course
selection.
-
Contact the
Admissions Office
or an advisor in your chosen major department at the transfer
institution as
soon as possible to verify your educational plan.
2. You may take individual courses at MVCC for transfer to your chosen four-year
institution.
Note: If you do not complete
the AA or AS degree or the IAI GECC before transfer, you will
be required to
meet the general education requirements at your transfer institution. General
education requirements vary substantially between institutions:
- Contact the
Admissions Office
or an advisor in your chosen major department at the transfer
institution as
soon as possible to verify your educational plan.
- See the articulation
tables for lists of transferable courses between MVCC and your transfer
institution. Consult with a MVCC advisor for assistance in appropriate
course selection.
Students who have been
certified as having completed the IAI GECC have only to complete
Lewis
University’s Mission Related Courses (9 hours) to meet the Lewis University
General
Education Requirements. Two of these courses must be taken at Lewis.
Students who transfer
without the IAI certification will have their transcripts evaluated on
a
course by course basis and must fulfill the Lewis University General
Education Requirements.
Note:
Students who transfer to Lewis University with fewer than 30 semester hours
will have
to meet the following requirements: o
Complete 3
hours from each of the 5 Fine Arts/Humanities categories, totaling 15
semester hours. o
Complete
Macroeconomics (3 hours) as part of the 9 hours required in the Social
Science category. o
