CCSSE 2003
Community College Survey of Student
Engagement
In Spring 2002, Moraine Valley participated in the Community College Survey of Student Engagement, a new national survey that focuses on teaching, learning, and retention in community colleges. After the results were shared with faculty at the January 2003 In-service, Dr. Mary Kay Kickels,
then, Vice President for Academic Affairs, asked departments to reflect upon the results and share thoughts as to the impact of the information on teaching and learning at Moraine Valley.
In September 2003, Dr. Kickels encouraged faculty to expand upon the ideas generated in January. Specifically, she asked departments to select critical issues in the
CCSSE report that faculty believe are closely aligned with their curriculum and expectations for student learning, and develop strategies for addressing those issues to support improved student learning during the
fall 2004 semester. It is anticipated that the college will be involved in a second administration of the
survey in 2005.
