Child Care—FAQs
Will
I need to complete a criminal background check for this program?
Yes, in
order to comply with certain state statutes and/or clinical affiliation
agreements, students may be asked to complete a criminal background check. Application forms for criminal background checks may be obtained through the
Career Programs Subdivision Office, B-150, and fees paid to the Bursar’s
Office. For information on criminal background application procedures, please
contact the Career Programs Subdivision Office at (708) 974-5708. Deadline
dates for completion of criminal background checks will be announced by Program
Coordinators.
How long will the program
take to complete?
Program length depends on the individual student. A full-time student will
complete the program in two years. A part-time student may take as long as
eight years to complete the requirements of the program.
Do you have to take the
Child Care courses in sequential order?
It is not necessary to take the courses in a particular order. It is
highly recommended that you discuss this with an academic advisor or the program
coordinator. Some courses require prerequisites.
What can you do with an
associate's degree in child care?
There are many employment opportunities for graduates. Graduates work in
day care centers, preschools, park district programs, libraries, and the public
school system.
How easy or difficult is it
to find a job?
Jobs in the early childhood field are plentiful.
Are courses offered at night
and on weekends?
Child Care courses are offered during the day, evening, on weekends, and during
the summer. Check the course schedule for specific offerings.

Do the instructors have time
to answer questions on a one to one basis?
The Child Care faculty will be happy to answer all of your questions regarding
the Child Care Program. All full-time faculty have scheduled office hours.
Will the courses from this
program transfer to any four-year schools?
