Moraine Valley Campus Sustainability Day
10/20/2009

Kermit the Frog said it’s not easy being green, but colleges and universities in the area are celebrating their commitment to “green” initiatives during Campus Sustainability Day on Wednesday, October 21. Moraine Valley Community College has a few activities planned for the day on campus, 9000 W. College Pkwy, Palos Hills.

Moraine Valley students, faculty and staff will stand at 10 a.m. on the Moraine Green near the new Gateway to form the number 350. The number is significant because it is the maximum number of parts per million (ppm) of carbon dioxide (CO2) that scientists have determined will allow ecosystems on earth to function efficiently and in a healthy manner. Currently, the earth registers at 390 ppm of CO2. A photo of the human number will be taken and posted on the 350.org Web site along with others from around the world.

There will be activities and information tables in the Student Union from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Passersby can learn about national and regional organizations and activities that promote a healthy environment for people and the planet and that focus on environmental and social justice campaigns. The goal is to encourage others to become interested and active in organizations promoting a safe and healthy future for everyone.

For media inquiries contact Maura Vizza, Moraine Valley public relations generalist, at (708) 974-5742 or e-mail VizzaM@morainevalley.edu.
