Moraine Valley Community College rates high with its college transfer graduates
6/22/2009

Moraine Valley Community College graduates who transfer to four-year schools are nearly unanimous in their regard to the college: They would recommend it to their friends.

Ninety-eight percent of the 2006-07 college transfer graduates responding to a survey last spring said they would recommend Moraine Valley to friends. The most highly rated aspects of the graduates’ Moraine Valley experience were the quality of instruction, the variety of courses, size of classes, and scheduling of classes.

The graduate transfer survey is conducted every spring, and the results for more than a decade have remained consistent: 97 to 100 percent of the respondents would recommend Moraine Valley to friends, and areas such as the library and computer services, lab equipment and supplies, and transfer materials all get high ratings.

Graduates said that among their most valuable experiences at Moraine Valley were the quality of the faculty, the availability of their instructors and the interest their instructors showed in them.

Eighty-nine percent of those graduates transferred to another college or university with 80 percent still enrolled and 13 percent already graduated.

The most popular public transfer four-year schools were Eastern Illinois University, Governors State University, Illinois State University, Northern Illinois University, and University of Illinois at Chicago. The most popular private institutions were Lewis University, Roosevelt University, Saint Xavier University, and Trinity Christian College.

The most popular four-year college majors were business, community services, communications, education, health professions, and social sciences, and biological and physical sciences.

“We are very pleased that our transfer graduates feel their educational experience at Moraine Valley was so positive. It reflects well on the faculty and staff and our efforts to ensure students are successful,” Dr. Vernon O. Crawley, college president, said. “This survey is a valuable tool in our continuous efforts to improve teaching and learning.”
