The 2009 summer school enrollment at Moraine Valley Community College rose to a record high with 11,799 students, surpassing the 11,000-student mark for the sixth consecutive year.
“Moraine Valley continues to be an excellent opportunity for our community members to start, as well as, continue their college experience or enrich it during the summer,” Dr. Vernon O. Crawley, college president, said. “Many of our summer school students attend four-year institutions in the fall and spring, and it is testament to our faculty and staff that these students see the value in taking classes with us in the summer.”
Credit enrollment increased by 3 percent (10,320 students) from last summer—also a record high. Over the past decade, credit enrollment has grown 41 percent. Additionally, credit hours rose to a record high with 47,751, a 5 percent increase over summer 2008.
The majority of students enrolled—70 percent—is taking college transfer classes, and 22 percent of the students are enrolled in career program courses. Female students outnumber males, making up 59 percent of the enrollment, while in-district students account for 85 percent of the enrollment.
