Kick start summer fun by enrolling in one of Moraine Valley Community College’s 13 new noncredit classes. Writers, cooks, crafters, gardeners, and others will enjoy this sampling of some of the new offerings.
Tackle a few new genres by enrolling in Creative Writing, a journey into poetry, journaling, and short stories; Freelance Writing Business for Results, a look at beginning a profitable freelance writing business; or The Art of Effective Public Relations, a study of strategic public relations methods and the art of relationship building. These four-week classes begin the week of June 8 and cost $45 each.
The college has “beefed” up its popular culinary classes with the addition of Pairing Wines with Your BBQ Masterpiece on Monday, June 22, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Held at Cooper’s Hawk Winery and Restaurant, 15690 S. Harlem Ave., Orland Park, participants will learn to pair the spicy reds and sweet whites with the tang of summer BBQ and will get an overview on using wine in marinades. The cost to enroll is $75, and everyone must be 21 or older.
Learn techniques to creating fabulous bows and other ribbon projects in the three-week Bow Making and Ribbon Art class, beginning July 9 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. The cost is $49. Discover how to care for and handle fresh-cut flowers from the garden or a florist during Florals: Fresh Cut Flower Care on Thursday, June 25, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. The cost is $20.
A one-day personal development seminar, The Power of Now, will use the teachings of Eckhart Tolle, meditation, and visualization exercises to study how the present frees people of negativity. It will be offered on Sunday, June 28, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for $89.
