In its continued effort to be a “green” campus, Moraine Valley Community College has received a grant for $53,154 from the Illinois Clean Energy Community Foundation to defray expenses related to lighting upgrades in the Dorothy Menker Theater and John and Angeline Oremus Theater in the college’s Fine and Performing Arts Center.
The installation of the state-of-the-art lighting instruments could result in an annual savings in excess of 35,000 kWh. The improved lights provide a superior quality beam, so they can run at a lower wattage with the same results as the older lighting. The new lighting equipment will replace original instruments that are 15 to 20 years old and will be installed before the 2009-10 performance season.
According to the Illinois Clean Energy Web site, the benefits of upgrading to efficient lighting systems include improved lighting quality, reduced operating and maintenance expenses, and saved energy, which leads to less pollution in Illinois communities.
The Illinois Clean Energy Community Foundation invests in clean energy development and land preservation efforts, working with communities and citizens to improve environmental quality in Illinois. The Foundation supports programs and projects that will improve energy efficiency, develop renewable energy resources and preserve and enhance natural areas and wildlife habitats throughout the state. Over the last seven years, the Foundation has awarded 2,634 grants, totaling $138 million to Illinois nonprofit organizations, schools, municipalities, and other local government agencies.
