Moraine Valley hosts presentation on Snort for the home user
10/14/2009

The Center for Systems Security and Information Assurance (CSSIA) at Moraine Valley Community College is hosting Nick Moore, senior system engineer for Sourcefire, on Oct. 16 at 6 p.m., who will present Snort for the Home User. The presentation will take place on campus in Building T, 9000 W. College Pkwy, Palos Hills.

Snort is an open source intrusion prevention and detection system for computers created by Sourcefire. Corporate or other large enterprise networks are different from the home environment, which is what drove Sourcefire to educate home users on Snort. The effectiveness of Snort makes it the most widely deployed prevention and detection technology in the world.

Moore will discuss the basics of security assessment, assembling a Snort policy and event analysis. There will be lab exercises to back up the concepts presented.
