Moraine Valley panel to discuss Sotomayor appointment to Supreme Court
As part of Hispanic Heritage Month, Moraine Valley Community College is holding a panel discussion on “The Appointment of Sonia Sotomayor: Gender, Ethnicity, Law, and Power” on Wednesday, Sept. 30, from noon to 1:30 p.m., in the campus library, 9000 W. College Pkwy, Palos Hills. The event is free and open to the public.
The panel discussion will focus on the impact of the appointment of Sonia Sotomayor as the first Hispanic-American female to the United States Supreme Court. Views on gender, ethnicity, law, power, and other issues relevant to her appointment will be shared in an attempt to bring the community together in an open discussion. Five Moraine Valley employees will make up the panel including Ricky Cobb, instructor of Sociology; Arlene De la Paz-Kane, coordinator of ASHE program; Delwyn Jones, assistant professor of Communications; Kevin Navratil, instructor of Political Science; and Amy Williamson, assistant professor of Psychology.
