The Economic Development Council for the Southwest Suburbs, an organization affiliated with Moraine Valley Community College’s Workforce Development and Community Services subdivision, is seeking nominations for its 2009 Business Champion Awards, formerly the Small Business Awards. The awards program recognizes the valuable contributions businesses and their advocates make to the economic development of Chicago’s southwest suburbs.
Nominations are being accepted for awards in five categories: Training and Development, Sustainability, Excellence in Government, Philanthropy, and Small Business and Entrepreneurial, and Commitment to Diversity. The deadline to submit a nomination is Thursday, October 15.
Eligible individuals or businesses must be clients of Moraine Valley and located in or provide services in one of the 26 communities in the college’s district. Nominees can enter as many categories for which they qualify, but they can only win once. Entries must include a nomination form and a brief description of the business or individual. Self-nominations are accepted.
The awards will be presented at the 15th annual Business Champion Awards Banquet on Thursday, November 12, from 4 to 7 p.m., at the new Moraine Valley Business and Conference Center, M Building.
Nomination forms can be downloaded at morainevalley.edu/edcss/awards. To receive a nomination packet or for more information call Eda Schrimple, Economic Development Council for the Southwest Suburbs coordinator, at (708) 974-5714.
