Moraine Valley Community College in Palos Hills has again this year received two Illinois Arts Council grants to support several of its Fine and Performing Arts Council theater performances.
The Theater for Young Audiences Grant for $1,680 underwrites artists’ fees for the Illinois Artists contracted during the 2009-2010 season. The theater group annually serves more than 10,000 students between the ages of three and 14. It produces three productions each year with a specific age group and content focus for each production. The December and April productions, which this season include Animal Tales and Dinosaur Scales and Fun with Physics, are targeted to children in pre-kindergarten through fourth grade. The February production, which this year is The Diary of Anne Frank, is targeted to children in grades 5 through 8.
The Performance Series grant for $6,650 underwrites expenses for performances featuring Illinois artists in the 2009-2010 season, which is Moraine Valley’s 15th season of presenting professional artists. The Chicago Artist Series provides opportunities for patrons to experience local and statewide professional artists. The upcoming season involves a much stronger commitment to educational outreach and ancillary programming than prior seasons. Shows in the Chicago Artist Series this season include Til Death Do Us Part: Late Nite Catechism III, Second City, American English, and Thodos Dance Chicago.
