Moraine Valley Community College will host a Medical Education Series presentation on “Tobacco Cessation Program” from 7 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, September 8, in the college’s Dorothy Menker Theater in the Fine and Performing Arts Center, 9000 W. College Parkway, Palos Hills. The event is co-sponsored by Northwestern Memorial Hospital and is free and open to the public.
Carol Southard is facilitating the presentation. She is a registered nurse and certified instructor with the American Lung Association with more than 25 years experience. Southard is currently on staff at Northwestern Memorial Hospital and is a tobacco cessation consultant for Chicago area hospitals. She recently joined the staff of the University of Chicago Medical Center as a study therapist for the Clinical Addictions Research Laboratory. She has published articles and presented numerous workshops for health professionals and community groups throughout the country on smoking cessation, and recently presented grand rounds at a hospital in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Southard has served on the expert panels of both the Illinois Academy of Family Physicians and the Illinois Academy of Pediatrics. She also was the project consultant for the Smoking Cessation Initiative, a national program.
For several years, Moraine Valley’s Career/Health Sciences Programs and Northwestern Memorial Hospital have collaborated to host a number of Medical Education Series presentations in a variety of health topics, including ophthalmology, cardiology and urology.
