The Intensive English Language Program (IELP) at Moraine Valley Community College assists students whose native language is not English in improving their English skills to enroll in classes at the college. Evening classes will be offered on campus, 9000 W. College Pkwy., Palos Hills, during the fall 2009 semester.
Students in the program can take beginning, intermediate, and advanced level classes in speech, grammar, writing, and reading. Those in the more advanced levels of IELP may take additional courses such as keyboarding and math, although a separate assessment is required for math.
“These classes are designed for people who are serious about committing their time and effort to developing their academic language skills,” said Arlene de la Paz Kane, coordinator of the Access and Success in Higher Education (ASHE) Program. “Personal schedules must allow enough time for homework, study, and tutoring assignments. Students with full-time jobs should seriously consider enrolling part-time.”
Potential students must possess basic academic English language processing skills that allow for sufficient classroom communication and an understanding of materials. All students must take the Compass/ESL placement test.
