Textbooks for MTH
Fall 2010 - Spring
2011 - Summer 2011 Textbook Information
Solutions manuals and reserve copies of textbooks: Students
are not required to purchase a solutions manual for any math course. When purchasing a new text, a solutions manual may
or may not come with a textbook package. Copies of textbooks, solutions manuals,
DVDs for some math courses, and TI-83/84 calculators are on reserve in the
Library at
the circulation desk. To search the math materials on reserve in the
Library for a particular course, students should go to the
Library's
Research
Tools Page.
e-books: Many math textbooks are
available in electronic format. Access can be purchased from the
publisher's website. Please check with your instructor to see if an
e-version of the text is available or sufficient.
Online courses: See the online math
courses offered by the department. For students
enrolled in online courses, additional information can be obtained directly from
the instructor or go to
Online Learning. Instructor's email addresses are available on the
faculty page.
Calculators: TI-83/84 calculators are
required for the following courses: MTH-139, 141, 142, 143, 145, 150, 151, 152,
201, 210, 212. A scientific calculator is required for MTH-120.
Note: Calculator use in any course may be restricted on tests and on the
final exam. The Mathematics Department offers a
Calculator Loan Program for students who may
need to borrow a calculator for a semester.
Questions: Contact Amy Madden,
Mathematics Department Chairperson, at (708)

Please note: There are several configurations of this text book.
If a student expects to only take one semester of Calculus (i.e., MTH 150
Calculus I), there is a Calculus I Early Transcendentals version.
If you are taking MTH 150 this Fall 2010 and you already have the
previous 4th edition, you may ask your instructor if it will suffice.
If you expect to take two or three
semesters of Calculus, it is best to buy the full text (of the new 5th edition).
Students entering Calculus II or
III can buy either the Early Transcendental version (4th edition) or the
traditional version (8th edition). The texts are identical for Calculus II and
III. Also, there are versions for Calculus II only and Calculus III
(Multivariable Calculus) only in the 8th edition. |
