Joann Karen Basick Memorial Scholarship

Established by the Moraine Valley Community College Foundation in honor of the former director of support services, Joann Karen Basick, this scholarship can be used for tuition, fees and books at Moraine Valley.

Amount: $1,000

Eligibility: Must be a female, enrolled and returning to school after being away from the academic environment for a minimum of 10 years and be and remain a district resident.

Dr. Patricia M. Bauhs Scholarship

Established by friends and colleagues in honor of Dr. Patricia M. Bauhs' retirement from Moraine Valley Community College, this scholarship can be used for tuition, fees and books at Moraine Valley.

Amount: $1,000

Eligibility: Must be 24 years of age or older and currently admitted to and enrolled in Moraine Valley Community College, be and remain a district resident, have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher, carry a minimum of 12 credit hours in the academic year, including the summer, in which the scholarship is awarded.

Essay: Submit a one-page, typed, double-spaced essay describing:

  • the individual's adult responsibilities
  • why the individual is applying for the scholarship
  • what the applicant's career aspirations are and
  • how the applicant plans to achieve his/her career aspirations

Joanne Casolari Memorial Scholarship

Established by the family of Joanne Casolari, a former Moraine Valley employee, this scholarship is available to single parents enrolled in Moraine Valley's Nursing Program and can be used for tuition or education-related expenses.

Amount: $200-$500 (dependent on funds available)

Eligibility: Applicants must be a returning single parent, be a resident of the Moraine Valley Community College District, be enrolled in the Nursing Program and have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 or above.

Applications: The Joanne Casolari Memorial Scholarship application is available online and must be completed and submitted to agresti@morainevalley.edu. Application must be submitted by Feb. 10, 2013, for consideration. Applications received after this date will not be considered. Awards will be made in August 2012.

Review Process: Moraine Valley Community College Financial Aid Office personnel will review applications to determine if all required information has been provided and whether applicant eligibility has been met. Once applications have been reviewed, a committee selected by the Casolari family, or their designee, will review the applications and essays to select the scholarship recipient. The committee reserves the right to request an interview with the applicants.

Great Lakes Bank Foundation Scholarship

Established by the Great Lakes Bank Foundation, this scholarship is intended to benefit students who are parents with dependent children and who are majoring in business, nursing, allied health or education at Moraine Valley Community College. It can be used for tuition, fees and books at Moraine Valley.

Amount: $1,000

Eligibility: Must be a parent with dependent children, have completed 12 credit hours of college-level work and have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher is be and remain a district resident currently enrolled in the Moraine Valley Community College Business, Nursing, Allied Health or Education programs and plan to pursue a career in the field of study and carry a minimum of six credit hours in Business, Nursing, Allied Health or Education during the semester(s) in which the scholarship is awarded.

Essay: Submit 500-word, typed, double-spaced personal statement outlining financial need, discussing the impact the scholarship will have on the student and his/her family, and identifying the student's goals for pursuing a career in Business, Nursing, Allied Health or Education.

Palos Orland Area AAUW - Anita Ritzler Scholarship

Established by the Palos Orland branch of AAUW, this scholarship is intended to benefit female students over the age of 40. It can be used for tuition, fees, and books at Moraine Valley.

Amount: $1,000

Eligibility: Must be a female student 40 years of age or older and currently enrolled at Moraine Valley. Applicant must have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5, carry a minimum of three credit hours at Moraine Valley during the semester in which the award is received, and demonstrate financial need.

Essay: Submit 500-word, typed, double-spaced essay that expresses her thoughts and/or feelings about why attaining a degree is important to her personal and professional development.

Anne Reagan Scholarship

Established to honor Anne Reagan's outstanding work at Moraine Valley Community College, this scholarship is to benefit one male and one female returning adult student at Moraine Valley. It can be used for tuition, fees and books at Moraine Valley.

Amount: $2,500

Eligibility: Must be 24 years of age or older and returning to school after being away five years or longer, and currently admitted to and enrolled in Moraine Valley Community College, maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0 or higher, carry a minimum of six credit hours during the semester(s) in which the scholarship is received, be and remain a resident of the Moraine Valley Community College district, and plan to major in Business, Education or English and plan to pursue a career in the same field of study.

Essay: Submit a 500-word, typed, double-spaced personal statement that addresses the student's financial need, expresses his/her thoughts about returning to college as an adult student and discusses how his/her education will make a difference or have an impact.

Returning Women Diversity Scholarship

Established by Marjorie Brook Marlowe, this scholarship is intended to benefit adult women who are pursuing their educational goals at Moraine Valley after being out of school for more than five years. It can be used for tuition, fees and books at Moraine Valley.

Amount: $1,500

Eligibility: Must be a returning woman who has been out of school for five years or longer and enrolled in Moraine Valley Community College, and carry a minimum of six credit hours during the semester in which the scholarship is awarded.

Essay: Submit a 500-word, typed statement that addresses the student's financial need, expresses her educational and career goals, and expresses the applicant's thoughts on being a returning women from a diverse background. Diversity includes ethnicity, race, age, sexual orientation and gender identification among others.

The Arlene Spiros Academic Scholarship

Established in honor of alum Arlene Spiros, this scholarship can be used for tuition, fees, and books at Moraine Valley.

Amount: $1,500

Eligibility: Must be a single mother who is at least 30 years of age and who is majoring in math or science. Applicant must be and remained a district resident and enrolled at Moraine Valley Community College. Applicant must have a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or above, carry a minimum of six credit hours at Moraine Valley during the semester in which the award is received and demonstrate financial need.

Essay: Submit 500-word, typed, double-spaced personal statement outlining financial need, discussing the impact the scholarship will have on the student and her family, and identifying the student’s goals for pursuing a career in math or science. Essay should include a documented plan and timeline for completing the intended program at Moraine Valley and, as appropriate, beyond.

Suburban Service League Scholarship

This scholarship can be used for tuition, fees, and books at Moraine Valley.

Amount: $1,000

Eligibility: Applicant must be a woman who is age 21 or older and enrolled at Moraine Valley Community College. Applicant must also be and remain a district resident, have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or above, have completed at least 12 credit hours, carry a minimum of six credit hours at Moraine Valley during the semester in which the award is received, and demonstrate financial need.
