To help make college more affordable, Moraine Valley offers numerous scholarships that do not have to be repaid. Many scholarships are based on your major, or grade point average, and not necessarily financial need.

Astro-to-Cyclone Scholarship
This scholarship can be used for tuition, fees, and books at Moraine Valley.
Amount: $1,000
Eligibility: Must be a graduate of Alan B. Shepard High School. Applicant must also be and remained a district resident and currently enrolled at Moraine Valley Community College. Applicant must have a cumulative G.P.A. of 2.0 or above, carry a minimum of twelve credit hours at Moraine Valley during the semester in which the award is received and demonstrate financial need.

Adjunct Faculty Organization Scholarship
Established by the Moraine Valley Adjunct Faculty Organization (M.V.A.F.O.), these scholarships provide money for education-related expenses at Moraine Valley Community College.
Amount: $250-$500, dependent on funds and number of qualified applicants
Eligibility: Open to part-time students (less than 11 credit hours per semester) who have attended Moraine Valley for at least two semesters, excluding summer school, and have accumulated six credit hours; are currently enrolled at Moraine Valley and have maintained a minimum 3.0 grade point average.

Arab American Women Scholarship
Established by a Moraine Valley Community College Foundation Board member, this scholarship can be used for tuition, fees and books at Moraine Valley.
Amount: $1,500
Eligibility: Must be a female Arab student enrolled at Moraine Valley, have a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or higher, carry a minimum of three credit hours during the semester(s) in which the scholarship is awarded, and demonstrate financial need.
Essay: Applicant must submit a 500-word, typed, double-spaced essay that expresses her thoughts and/or feelings about what a college education means to her.

Joann Karen Basick Memorial Scholarship
Established by the Moraine Valley Community College Foundation in honor of the former director of support services, Joann Karen Basick, this scholarship can be used for tuition, fees and books at Moraine Valley.

Eligibility: Must be a female, enrolled and returning to school after being away from the academic environment for a minimum of 10 years and be and remain a district resident.

Dr. Patricia M. Bauhs Scholarship
Established by friends and colleagues in honor of Dr. Patricia M. Bauhs’ retirement from Moraine Valley Community College, this scholarship can be used for tuition, fees and books at Moraine Valley.
Amount: $1,000
Eligibility: Must be 24 years of age or older and currently admitted to and enrolled in Moraine Valley Community College, be and remain a district resident, have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.0 or higher, carry a minimum of 12 credit hours in the academic year, including the summer, in which the scholarship is awarded.
Essay: Submit a one-page, typed, double-spaced essay describing: a) the individual’s adult responsibilities, b) why the individual is applying for the scholarship, c) what the applicant’s career aspirations are and d) how the applicant plans to achieve his/her career aspirations.

Robert J. Bobb Memorial Scholarship
Established by former Moraine Valley Community College Foundation Board Member Mrs. Marguriet Bobb in memory of her late husband, this scholarship can be used for tuition, fees or textbooks at Moraine Valley.
Amount: $1,500
Eligibility: Must be a graduating senior/incoming freshman from a high school within the Moraine Valley district and remain a district resident; plan to pursue a career in business administration or become an entrepreneur; must have a cumulative high school grade point average of 3.0 (B) or higher; must be a full-time student (12 or more credit hours) per semester; and must demonstrate financial need. This award may be renewed for a second year with a minimum Moraine Valley cumulative GPA of 3.5.

Sandra Broadbent Memorial Scholarship
Established in memory of Moraine Valley employee Sandra Broadbent, this scholarship can be used for tuition, fees and books at Moraine Valley.
Amount: $1,500
Eligibility: Must be currently enrolled full time at Moraine Valley, be and remain a district resident and have completed 12 credit hours. Applicant must also demonstrate a history of outstanding commitment to volunteer service in the community, have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher, carry a minimum of six credit hours during the semester(s) in which the scholarship is awarded, plan to complete and Associate’s degree and transfer to a four-year institution to complete a Bachelor’s degree, and demonstrate financial need. Applicant must provide documented evidence of community service.
Essay: Submit a typed essay discussing your personal and academic responsibilities, the various agencies you volunteer with and type of work you do, and what you have learned from being a volunteer.

Career Programs Scholarship - Aileen S. Andrew Mechanical Technologies
This scholarship funded by the Aileen S. Andrew Foundation, can be used for tuition, fees, and books at Moraine Valley.
Amount: $1,000
Eligibility: Must be enrolled in a Mechanical Technologies program (Automotive, Heating and Air Conditioning, Welding) through the Career Programs subdivision of the college and have completed at least two courses in the program curriculum. Applicant must also be and remain a district resident, have a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.5, carry a minimum of six credit hours at Moraine Valley during the semester in which the award is received and demonstrate financial need.

Joanne Casolari Memorial Scholarship
Established by the family of Joanne Casolari, a former Moraine Valley employee, this scholarship is available to single parents enrolled in Moraine Valley’s Nursing Program and can be used for tuition or education-related expenses.
Amount: $200-$500 (dependent on funds available)
Eligibility: Applicants must be a returning single parent, be a resident of the Moraine Valley Community College District, be enrolled in the Nursing Program and have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0 or above.
Applications: The Joanne Casolari Memorial Scholarship application is available online and must be completed and submitted to agresti@morainevalley.edu. Application must be submitted by Feb. 10, 2012, for consideration. Applications received after this date will not be considered. Awards will be made in August 2012.
Review Process: Moraine Valley Community College Financial Aid Office personnel will review applications to determine if all required information has been provided and whether applicant eligibility has been met. Once applications have been reviewed, a committee selected by the Casolari family, or their designee, will review the applications and essays to select the scholarship recipient. The committee reserves the right to request an interview with the applicants.

Center for Disability Services Scholarship
Established by the Moraine Valley Community College Foundation, this scholarship recognizes and supports students with disabilities.
Amount: $1,000
Eligibility: Must be enrolled at Moraine Valley, be and remain a district resident, be utilizing the Center for Disability Services, have a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.5, have completed six credit hours prior to the semester in which the award is received, and carry a minimum of six credit hours during the semester in which the award is received.

Jane E. Crawley Scholarship
Named in memory of the former dean of Allied Health, Public Service and Nursing, this scholarship can be used for tuition, fees, books, and transportation at Moraine Valley, as funds permit.
Amount: $500
Eligibility: Must be district resident, be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident, be currently enrolled in an Allied Health or Nursing Program, have successfully completed 12 credit hours of the program with a minimum grade point average of 3.0.

Developmental Education Scholarship
This scholarship is funded by the Moraine Valley Foundation, and can be used for tuition and education-related expenses at Moraine Valley.
Amount: $1,000
Eligibility: Must be enrolled in a course offered through Moraine Valley’s Developmental Education department. Students who are registered for more than one developmental education course will be given preference for the scholarship. Must be and remain a district resident, have a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.5, and carry a minimum of six credit hours during the semester in which the award is received.

Distinguished Scholar Award
This award is presented to district high school students who have demonstrated academic excellence. It can be used for in-district tuition, college activities fee, technology fee, and student ID fee at Moraine Valley.

Eligibility: Must be resident of Moraine Valley district and graduate with cumulative class rank in top 10 percent of high school graduating class at the end of the seventh or eighth semester.

Faculty Association Scholarships
These scholarships are funded by Moraine Valley’s Faculty Association and can be used for college expenses such as tuition, books and fees at Moraine Valley. Several scholarships are awarded each semester.
Amount: $500-$1,500, dependent on funds and number of qualified applicants
Eligibility: Open to full- or part-time students who have completed 25 credit hours in a transfer or career program at Moraine Valley, maintained at least a 3.6 grade point average, are currently enrolled, have obtained the signature of a full-time faculty member, and are enrolled at Moraine Valley during the semester the scholarship is awarded.

Great Lakes Bank Foundation Scholarship
Established by the Great Lakes Bank Foundation, this scholarship is intended to benefit students who are parents with dependent children majoring in Business, Nursing, Allied Health or Education at Moraine Valley Community College. It can be used for tuition, fees and books at Moraine Valley.
Amount: $1,000
Eligibility: Must be a parent with dependent children, have completed 12 credit hours of college-level work and have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher is be and remain a district resident currently enrolled in the Moraine Valley Community College Business, Nursing, Allied Health or Education programs and plan to pursue a career in the field of study and carry a minimum of six credit hours in Business, Nursing, Allied Health or Education during the semester(s) in which the scholarship is awarded.
Essay: Submit 500-word, typed, double-spaced personal statement outlining financial need, discussing the impact the scholarship will have on the student and his/her family, and identifying the student’s goals for pursuing a career in Business, Nursing, Allied Health or Education.

The Hickey Foundation Scholarship
Established by the Hickey Foundation for a single mother who is pursuing an Associates Degree in Nursing, this scholarship can be used for tuition, fees and books at Moraine Valley.
Amount: $1,000-$3,000 dependent on funds
Eligibility: Must be a single mother currently enrolled in the Nursing Program at Moraine Valley Community College and plan to pursue a career in Nursing, carry a minimum of six credit hours in Nursing during the semester(s) in which the scholarship is awarded, demonstrate financial need.

Dr. James D. Koeller – Founders Scholarship
Established by the Moraine Valley Community College Foundation in honor of Moraine Valley’s second president, this scholarship is intended to benefit a speech student at Moraine Valley Community College. It can be used for tuition, fees and books at Moraine Valley.
Amount: $1,000
Eligibility: Must be and remain a member on the Moraine Valley Community College Forensics (speech) Team, have a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or higher, be and remain enrolled as a full-time student at Moraine Valley and be and remain a resident of the Moraine Valley Community College district.
Essay: Submit a typed, double-spaced personal statement outlining financial need and addressing what communication skills the student has gained from being a member of the Forensics (speech) Team and how these skills will be useful in the student’s life.

Barbara J. Lehrman Memorial Scholarship
Named in honor of a former Moraine Valley professor, this scholarship is awarded to a graduating Moraine Valley transfer student who completed a degree in August 2011 or will complete a degree in December 2011 or May 2012.
Amount: $500
Eligibility: Must have a minimum grade point average of 3.0; be accepted at a four-year institution and enroll at that institution within a year following graduation from Moraine Valley; and plan to major in communications, literature, humanities, or history.

Dolores Dalton Mallo Nursing Scholarship
Established by family and friends to honor the memory of a distinguished nursing instructor at Moraine Valley Community College for 14 years, this scholarship can be used for tuition, fees, and/or textbooks at Moraine Valley.
Amount: $1,000
Eligibility: Must be enrolled in the Moraine Valley Community College Associate Degree Nursing Program and plan to pursue a career in nursing; be and remain a resident in the Moraine Valley Community College district; have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher and carry a minimum of six credit hours in nursing in the semester(s) during which the scholarship is awarded and demonstrate financial need.

Lieutenant Gene Marcheschi Memorial Scholarship
Established by the family and friends of Lieutenant Gene Marcheschi to honor his outstanding work and leadership and his dedication to continuing professional development for firefighters, this scholarship can be used for tuition, fees and books at Moraine Valley.
Amount: $1,000
Eligibility: Must be currently enrolled in the Moraine Valley Community College Fire Science Program and plan to pursue a degree in Fire Science, be and remain a resident in the Moraine Valley Community College district, have and maintain a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or higher and carry a minimum of six credit hours in Fire Science during the semester(s) in which the scholarship is awarded.
Essay: Submit a 500-word, typed, double-spaced personal statement that demonstrates financial need and outlines how the scholarship will benefit the student’s professional development and assist him/her in promoting ongoing fire science education among his/her professional colleagues.

Moraine Valley Alumni Scholarship
This scholarship, funded by the Moraine Valley Foundation, can be used by an immediate relative (son, daughter, mother father, brother, sister) of a Moraine Valley graduate for tuition or education-related expenses at Moraine Valley.
Amount: $1,000
Eligibility: Must be an immediate relative (son, daughter, mother father, brother, sister) of a Moraine Valley alumnus or alumna, submit a letter of verification from the alumnus or alumna that states year of graduation and a statement of nomination for the candidate, be currently enrolled, be and remain a district resident, have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0, and carry a minimum of six credit hours.

Moraine Valley GED Graduate Scholarship
Established by Dr. Phil Bobich at his retirement from Moraine Valley, this scholarship can be used for tuition, fees and books at Moraine Valley. The scholarship can be applied to any credit class including developmental classes like COM-090, MATH-095 and/or RDG-091.
Amount: $500
Eligibility: Must have participated in and attended at least 60 percent of the enrollment hours in the GED Preparation Program at Moraine Valley Community College and plan to continue at Moraine Valley Community College, have a cumulative grade point average of 2.75 or higher, be and remain a district resident, and carry a minimum of three credit hours during the semester in which the scholarship is awarded.

Moraine Valley Leadership Award
This award is given to an outstanding student leader involved in Moraine Valley’s student activities, community volunteer groups or other outside interests. The winner speaks to graduating students at the commencement ceremony held in May.
Amount: $900
Eligibility: Must be a graduating student with a grade point average of at least 3.0 and be receiving an associate’s degree, submit an essay (three-page maximum) on the topic “What is a Leader?”, submit two letters of recommendation
from persons who are able to validate your leadership skills and experiences, complete a brief form detailing your leadership experience during the time you have been a Moraine Valley student, and complete a personal interview with the award selection committee.

Palos Orland Area AAUW - Anita Ritzler Scholarship
Established by the Palos Orland branch of AAUW, this scholarship is intended to benefit female students over the age of 40. It can be used for tuition, fees, and books at Moraine Valley.
Amount: $1,000
Eligibility: Must be a female student 40 years of age or older and currently enrolled at Moraine Valley. Applicant must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.5, carry a minimum of three credit hours at Moraine Valley during the semester in which the award is received, and demonstrate financial need.
Essay: Submit 500-word, typed, double-spaced essay that expresses her thoughts and/or feelings about why attaining a degree is important to her personal and professional development.

Kevin Pressley Memorial Scholarship
Established in memory of Kevin Pressley, this scholarship is intended to benefit theatre students. It can be used for tuition, fees, and books at Moraine Valley.
Amount: $300
Eligibility: Must be currently enrolled at Moraine Valley, have completed one theatre course and participated in a theatrical production at the college. Applicant must also have completed 12 credit hours, have a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.5, carry a minimum of six credit hours at Moraine Valley during the semester in which the award is received, and demonstrate financial need. Applicant must submit one letter of recommendation from a theatre professional with whom you have worked and complete an interview with the scholarship selection committee.

Anne Reagan Scholarship
Established to honor Anne Reagan’s outstanding work at Moraine Valley Community College, this scholarship is to benefit one male and one female returning adult student at Moraine Valley. It can be used for tuition, fees and books at Moraine Valley.
Amount: $2,500
Eligibility: Must be 24 years of age or older and returning to school after being away five years or longer, and currently admitted to and enrolled in Moraine Valley Community College, maintain a minimum grade point average of 2.0 or higher, carry a minimum of six credit hours during the semester(s) in which the scholarship is received, be and remain a resident of the Moraine Valley Community College district, and plan to major in Business, Education or English and plan to pursue a career in the same field of study.
Essay: Submit a 500-word, typed, doublespaced personal statement that addresses the student’s financial need, expresses his/her thoughts about returning to college as an adult student and discusses how his/her education will make a difference or have an impact.

Returning Women Diversity Scholarship
Established by Marjorie Brook Marlowe, is intended to benefit adult women who are pursuing their educational goals at Moraine Valley after being out of school for more than five years. It can be used for tuition, fees and books at Moraine Valley.
Amount: $1,500
Eligibility: Must be a returning woman who has been out of school for five years or longer and enrolled in Moraine Valley Community College, and carry a minimum of six credit hours during the semester in which the scholarship is awarded.
Essay: Submit a 500-word, typed statement that addresses the student’s financial need, expresses her educational and career goals, and expresses the applicant’s thoughts on being a returning women from a diverse background. Diversity includes ethnicity, race, age, sexual orientation and gender identification among others.

Science and Business Scholarship
Funded by the Moraine Valley Foundation, this scholarship can be used for tuition and education-related expenses at Moraine Valley.
Amount: $1,000
Eligibility: Must be enrolled in a program offered through Moraine Valley’s Science and Business subdivision be and remain a district resident; have a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.5 and carry a minimum of six credit hours.

Student Government Association Book Scholarship
This scholarship, available every semester, is sponsored by Moraine Valley’s Student Association and can be used to purchase books for college. Full- or part-time students may apply.
Amount: $200
Eligibility: Must have a minimum grade point average of 2.5 and be currently enrolled at Moraine Valley. Complete essay questions and submit one letter of recommendation from faculty member or Moraine Valley staff.

Student Life Award of Excellence
This scholarship, which can be used to continue your education, is awarded to an outstanding participant in Moraine Valley’s Student Life programs.
Amount: $750
Eligibility: Must be involved in Student Life Office program(s) and have at least a 2.5 cumulative grade point average, with completion of at least six credit hours per semester. Must complete essay and complete a personal interview with award selection committee.

Suburban Service League Scholarship
This scholarship can be used for tuition, fees, and books at Moraine Valley.
Amount: $1,000
Eligibility: Applicant must be a woman who is age 21 or older and enrolled in Moraine Valley Community College. Applicant must also be and remain a district resident, have a cumulative G.P.A. of 2.5 or above, have completed at least twelve credit hours, carry a minimum of six credit hours at Moraine Valley during the semester in which the award is received, and demonstrate financial need.

Support Staff Association Scholarships
These scholarships provide money for academically excellent students pursuing all avenues of education. Awards are funded by Moraine Valley’s Support Staff Association.
Amount: $200-$300, dependent on funds and number of qualified applicants
Eligibility: Must have completed 15 credit hours at Moraine Valley, maintained at least a 3.0 grade point average, and have obtained a recommendation by a Moraine Valley faculty member.
Applications Available: Year-round

Matthew P. Walsh Scholarship
Established by the Moraine Valley Community College Foundation Board of Directors and friends to honor the founding president of the Foundation upon his retirement from that position following 18 years of service. This scholarship can be used for tuition, fees, and/or textbooks at Moraine Valley.
Amount: $2,500
Eligibility: Must be enrolled or accepted into classes at Moraine Valley Community College, be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States and reside in the Moraine Valley Community College district, have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0, carry a minimum of 12 credit hours per semester, and provide documented evidence of community service
