Demo Show
Members of the Engineering Club
on Learning Day in February 2008 held a series of physics demonstration
shows that faculty and staff were invited to attend. The event was called
Physics Is Phun: Explosions and More to Blow Your Mind. We
performed demos that displayed the fundamental principles of mechanics, thermodynamics,
electricity, and magnetism. The students spent many hours
preparing their demos and practicing their presentations. Overall, the show
was a big hit…and thankfully no students or staff were injured in the
process.

Earth
Week
We decided to show off our monorail
transportation system (“rail gun”), so we set up a table in the College
Center during Earth Week. The event generated some discussion
about green transportation, while at the same time demonstrating the sort
of things we do in the Engineering Club.

Future Events
We have been invited by the IIT Physics
Department to take a tour of their Advanced Photon Source this summer. Also, we are planning a trip to Fermilab in the near future to tour the particle accelerator and detectors.
