ENGAGING STUDENTS WITH INTERACTIVE ONLINE TOOLS -

This course provides opportunities for the faculty or staff member who is interested in supplementing and enhancing the delivery of materials through the use of technology and digital media in their face-to-face or online courses. A special emphasis will be placed on helping faculty invest their time and effort in learning technologies efficiently. Participants should be able to infuse one or more of the Web 2.0 technologies introduced in this course into a lesson.
In this MVLA course, participants will:
- survey and sample a variety of interactive online technologies that can be used to supplement their face-to-face or online courses.
- learn when and how to effectively implement the tools.
- evaluate, select, and infuse one or more web 2.0 technologies into a course.

MAKING IT STICK!: HOW TO HELP YOUR STUDENTS
REMEMBER WHAT YOU HAVE TAUGHT THEM

The goal of this course is to discover and practically implement current, proven techniques and methods to increase the retention of course concepts. It will focus specifically on the methodology of presentation and maximizing its effectiveness for audience memory. This course will be utilizing the book: “Made to Stick: Why Some Ideas Survive and Others Die” by Chip Heath and Dan Heath as its text and springboard for the majority of the concepts and discussions.
Learning Objectives:
- To become aware of the course of knowledge in presenting.
- To be able to use the strategies of simplicity, unexpectedness, concreteness, credibility, emotionality, and stories to enhance the memory of the content of a presentation.
- To be able to use the above strategies to practically enhance current presentations, including a final course project, without a complete overhaul to make them stick better.
