
The CTL continues its relationship with Performance Learning Systems (PLS) and the University of St. Francis to offer three graduate PLS courses focused on Teaching and Learning. Each PLS course will offer 3 graduate credit hours. These courses are open to Moraine Valley faculty and staff. There are no prerequisite classes. You may take any one, two or three of these classes. Teaching Through Learning Channels (Hurry! The Early Bird Special for this Class Expires 1/26)

In this class, we will be looking at teacher sensory styles, translating them to students, perceptual and organizational styles of students, brain patterns for learning, and temperament styles. You will leave with an entirely new perspective of both yourself and your students. Most important, you will leave with new lesson plans for your own classes you teach which you can use in the future.

MAGIC: Meaningful Activities to Generate Interest in the Classroom (Hurry! The Early Bird Special for this Class Expires 3/4)

Activities to enhance learning are a part of 21st century education. In this class, you will experience over 60 different activities you can use in your classroom. In addition, we will look at methods to assess the true value of an activity. Most important, we will discuss how you can fit particular activities into your own classroom so you can use them in the future.

Reach a new level of positive communication, with strategies necessary to foster an emotionally engaging classroom where students are connected to both learning and one another. Specific strategies are provided in the following areas: teacher leadership, listening and communication, positive thinking and support, and team building.

Classroom Management
Learn the skills of effective classroom management to create a
positive classroom structure that maximizes student learning.
Develop techniques to increase desired student behaviors and
decrease undesired behaviors. Create an Action Plan of practical
strategies to implement immediately in the classroom.

Early-Bird Registration
Beginning with spring 2008 PLS classes, those registered 30 days or more before class starts will be entered into a class raffle. Prizes will be raffled off on the first day of each class, with the GRAND PRIZE being a $124 tuition waiver for the class. This will make the class FREE for one participant if a benefit eligible employee.

While registration for public PLS classes can be done via the Internet, classes offered at Moraine Valley are solely for Moraine Valley faculty and staff. To register, call 1-866-PLS- CLAS (1-800-757-2527). You will need to leave a $50 deposit, with the balance due on the first day of class. Be sure to mention the “Moraine Valley” classes.
Cost of Tuition
Tuition for these PLS courses is
$574 and includes the cost of your textbook. For benefit-eligible faculty and staff, the total cost of each course for you would range between $124 and $149 for 3 graduate credit hours after you receive tuition reimbursement! You may be reimbursed up to 9 credit hours each fiscal year.
Please note: You must complete the Pre-Approval Form for Course Reimbursement and Lane Movement before you register for the course in order to be considered for tuition reimbursement and lane movement. You can download this form from the Intranet under the Campus Forms --> Human Resources --> Tuition Reimbursement.
