The Moraine Valley Learning Academy (MVLA) will offer two courses taught by, and for, Moraine Valley faculty. Share your experience! Sign up for these Academy classes today by logging into Training Manager.

Courses Offered This Spring
Learning in Style: Styles and Strategies for Teaching Mathematics and Other Fun Subjects (Like English, Science, History, etc.)
CTL-MVLA-101-SP08
Through the use of hands-on activities, participants will apply theories of leaning styles and be able to model effective teaching strategies. The goal of the course is to inform instructors about different learning styles and various instructional strategies that can be used to target each of these learning styles in order to help students better understand course content.

Learning Objectives:

  • Develop familiarity with the four learning styles as well as evaluate a learning preference.
  • Develop a repertoire of instructional strategies to use when creating lessons and/or units that target learning styles.
  • Alter existing lessons and/or units using learned instructional strategies.

Springboards: Using Multimedia and Multidisciplinary Materials
CTL-MVLA-102-SP08
Use various media–articles, books, film–to spice up an existing lesson or redevelop an entire unit. Participants will explore the pedagogical and motivational values of multimedia and multidisciplinary resources to heighten interest and deepen connections for students.
