CPR Series
CPR for Health Professionals and Students
Meets the requirements for recognition as a Basic Life Support Rescuer for healthcare providers by the American Heart Association (AHA). This course is intended for those who are new students in the healthcare field as well as current healthcare professionals. The new 2005 AHA Guidelines for CPR and AED will be presented. One and two rescuer Adult and Pediatric CPR, Adult and pediatric Foreign Body Airway Obstruction.
Required book is available from the Moraine Valley college bookstore ($15).

CPR for the Layperson
Heartsaver CPR is designed for the lay rescuer. Adult and Pediatric CPR and AED targets all members of the community, such as senior citizens, school-age children, family members of patients at risk for sudden cardiac death, and other laypersons who want to learn CPR and AED rescue skills.

First Aid
Heart Saver First Aid with CPR and AED
This course is designed for the general public and will include such topics as medical emergencies, first aid for burns, controlling bleeding, shock and environmental emergencies. Adult CPR and the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED) will also be included in this course. Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive the American Heart Association First Aid/Adult CPR/AED certificate which is valid for 2 years. Required textbook to be purchased from the instructor. This course does NOT include CPR-HCP.

Exam Preparation
CCS-P Exam Prep Class
This course is intended for those who have completed a coding or Health Information program or those experienced coders planning to sit for the CCS-P examination. The course will provide the student with an opportunity to evaluate and strengthen their coding skills in preparation for the examination. Information regarding the CCS-P examination may be obtained from the American Health Information Management Association at the website www.ahima.org or by calling (312) 233-1100.

Required texts: Review book (available in bookstore) AND bring a current ICD-9-CM, CPT AND HCPCS CODE BOOK TO FIRST CLASS.

This workshop is geared toward experienced ICD-9-CM coders. Participants must be familiar with the ICD-9-CM coding system. However, the workshop may be beneficial for people interested in updating existing coding knowledge. Nursing
Train-the-Trainer: CNA Instructor course
Prerequisites: To qualify for this program, each student must be a licensed, registered nurse for at least 2 years in the state of Illinois, and possess one year of experience in one of the following areas: extended care unit (may be adult or pediatric), chronic care unit, hospice, home health agency, long-term facility, or geriatric swing bed unit of the hospital. This 32-hour program approved by the Illinois Department of Public Health trains registered nurses to be qualified instructors for the CNA program at various educational facilities in the state of Illinois. The course will include the Alzheimer’s component.

Current Nursing Update Refresher (RN Refresher)
The Current Nurse Update Refresher will provide comprehensive theory and clinical experiences for returning nurses to a healthcare setting, or practicing nurse professionals who wish to broaden their healthcare knowledge. The course study affords the student an update to their pharmacological practical application skills in the medical-surgical area of professional nursing. The course further allows the student to re-establish a solid medical-surgical foundation and patterns the building blocks of self-esteem and achievement. This course is approved by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR). (This course is approved for 10 AEC) Students must complete a series of immunizations and paperwork due the first day or class or they will be dropped without a refund. New Ethics Management for Allied Health
Prerequisite: must have an Allied Health certificate and/or license.
Students will use group as well as individual process and peer support will explore topics such as business, ethics, professionalism, and self-care. We will use the primary professional health training model of the mental health field with a trained mental health professional who is also a somatic therapist as well. Participants will share in the discussion of ethical dilemmas, creating an ethical practice, review of actual de-identified case studies and identify areas for additional support as professionals.

Central Processing Technician
A central processing Technician is a person responsible for the set up and maintenance of the operating room. They may work for a hospital, free standing surgical center, or in a physician’s or dental surgeon’s office. Whether you’re a new student or a working Central Processing Tech, join us this fall for a full semester of theory and clinical at a local area hospital The course will help students work toward the IAHCSMM Certification exam.
