Travel Business
Management—About the Program
The travel field is one of the world’s most dynamic and exciting industries. Globally, it employs more people than any other in the world. It offers
employees a fast pace, a diverse workplace, challenge, mobility, and some amazing “fringe
benefits.”
The travel program develops the skills necessary for a variety of careers in
the multi-billion dollar travel industry. Moraine Valley’s travel curriculum encompasses essential information regarding travel services, products and current issues, as well
as technical and interpersonal skills. Our faculty members are subject-matter experts and
working professionals in the travel
industry.
The comprehensive program also covers international travel, hotels, conventions, and car rental, as well as transportation options available for traveling, including motor coach, air, rail, and ship. You will gain experience on reservation computer systems currently used in the travel industry plus internet research skills – so you’ll have the skills employers require. An internship is offered with various segment of the travel industry: airline, rental car, tour operator, travel agency, etc., where you can incorporate what
you learned in the classroom to an on-the-job experience. Additionally, you have the opportunity to participate
in the Walt Disney World College Program Internship in Orlando,
Florida.
Two levels of study are offered – the Travel-Tourism Certificate Program and the Travel-Business Management Associate in Applied Science
Degree Program. The Travel-Tourism Certificate Program requires fewer credit hours than an associate's degree. It is intended to lead to entry-level employment. Please note that all of the courses included in the Travel-Tourism Certificate Program apply toward
the Travel-Business Management Associate Degree in Applied Science Program. Moraine Valley’s Travel Business Management A.A.S.
degree is recommended for those seeking a management or supervisory position within the following areas: airlines, travel agencies, tour operators,
hotels, rental car agencies, cruise lines, meeting planning and special event management organizations, and convention and visitors bureaus. In additional to a broad-based academic experience, our students receive occupational training unique to
the industry. This program is intended to lead to employment, professional enhancement, or transfer to a four-year college or university. If you are considering transferring to a four-year college or university to obtain a bachelor’s degree using the courses from this program, make an appointment with an academic advisor or review your options.
